Two course records were set by players using Volvik golf balls this weekend at the LPGA Tour’s Kia Classic.
The low round of the LPGA Tour’s Kia Classic Saturday belonged to 25-time LPGA winner and newly signed Volvik staff player Se Ri Pak, who tied the course record at Aviara Golf Club with an 8-under 64 playing with Volvik White/Color S3 golf balls.
Volvik staff player Ilhee Lee followed in her footsteps Sunday, tying the course record with an 8-under 64 of her own playing Yellow Volvik Vista iS golf balls.
Both Pak and Lee finished T10 at 12 under par at the Kia Classic.
The course record was set by Dori Carter in 2014 and was also tied in the second round this year by Morgan Pressel, which Lee witnessed as a pairing partner of Pressel’s on Friday.
“I play with Morgan (Pressel), I learn from her. Tell her I try to copy her today,” said Lee, when asked why so many players are tying the course record this week.
Lee now ranks 11th on the 2015 LPGA Tour money list, earning $221,268 with four Top 10 finishes in the first seven events of the 2015 season.
Pak set the course record in just her third event playing Volvik golf balls. She enters next week’s major event seeking her career grand slam at the ANA Inspiration at Mission Hills Country Club, the only major event that has eluded her in her 17 years as a professional. Pak has won 5 majors in her career. She has placed in the Top 10 six times at ANA Inspiration, formerly known as the Kraft Nabisco Championship, including a T4 finish last year.
“I had a shoulder injury last year and this is my third event,” said Pak. “I wasn’t expecting anything, just each week hopefully get better. My game is getting together. But until yesterday it wasn’t really great, but today it was happening, so it really helps a lot. It was really fun.”
Pak ranks 7th on the LPGA all-time career money list. Her last major win took place at the 2006 LPGA Championship.
“I have been testing new golf balls for a while and I finally found the ball that I really love,” said Pak. “This is a one of the best performing golf balls I have found for my game and I hope it helps lift me to one more major win for my career grand slam.”
Four players using Volvik golf balls rank in the Top 30 on the official 2015 LPGA Tour money list after the Kia Classic. Currently, Ilhee Lee ranks 11th, Pornanong Phatlum ranks 18th, Mi Hyang Lee ranks 25th and Chella Choi ranks 28th. Volvik LPGA staff players have earned five Top 5’s, eight Top 10’s and 10 Top 25’s so far in 2015, including three Top 3 finishes with three different colors at last week’s JTBC Founders Cup.
Volvik ranked as the #2 ranking manufacturer in prize money earned on the 2014 LPGA Tour, with professionals using their ultra-high performance balls earning $3.7 million, according to the Darrell Survey.
