Los Cabos A Major Presence On ‘Golfweek’s Best: Caribbean & Mexico 2015’ Roster

April 2, 2015

LOS CABOS, Mexico (April 1, 2015) – Golfweek, the weekly U.S. magazine geared “For Serious Golfers,” produces an array of annual course rankings in dozens of categories. The publication’s newly released list of the Top 50 courses in the Caribbean and Mexico is clear indication that Los Cabos, the alluring ‘Great Golf – Perfect Weather’ destination situated at the tip of Baja California Sur, is well-regarded by the magazine’s raters.

Nine of the 14 courses in Los Cabos are featured on the list, including two venues in the top five and four in the top 15. No other destination in Mexico boasts as many courses on the elite roster.

Ranked at No. 2 on Golfweek’s list is the Dunes Course at Diamante, a prodigious 7,300-yard layout carved by Davis Love III into massive rolling dunes set back from the Pacific Ocean. The Tom Fazio-designed course at Querencia, a private golf community set in rugged desert foothills high above the Sea of Cortes, is ranked No. 5.

Appearing at No. 14 on Golfweek’s roster is Cabo del Sol’s Ocean Course, the spectacular Jack Nicklaus-designed layout often described as the ‘Pebble Beach of the Baja,’ with seven holes touching a coastline marked by granite outcrops and golden beaches. El Dorado, an exclusive Discovery Land Company resort community, also has a Jack Nicklaus-designed course that partakes of Cabo’s unique mountain-desert-ocean environment.

Rounding out the list is Cabo del Sol’s Desert Course (No. 28), a Tom Weiskopf-designed gem that circulates players through rock-studded foothills high above the sea; and Puerto Los Cabos (No. 33), a hybrid course with two distinctive nines laid out by Greg Norman and Jack Nicklaus near the historic downtown area of San Jose del Cabo.

Also included on Golfweek’s Best list is Cabo Real (No. 42), a solid Robert Trent Jones, Jr.-designed spread that anchors a 2,800-acre resort development; Palmilla (Mountain & Arroyo – (No. 45), a Jack Nicklaus Signature course that put Los Cabos on the international golf map when

it debuted in 1992; and Club Campestre (No. 46), a daily-fee Nicklaus Design tucked in mountain foothills 15 minutes from Los Cabos International Airport.

There’s a good chance that by next year, Cabo’s newest award-winning courses, Quivira (Jack Nicklaus) and Diamante’s El Cardonal (Tiger Woods), each opened in December 2014, will be prime candidates for inclusion on Golfweek’s 2016 roster of the best courses in the Caribbean and Mexico.
