San Jose, CA – While PGA TOUR players are in pursuit of the revered “green jacket” at the Masters, stand-out collegiate players will compete for the coveted “blue jacket” at the 69th annual Transamerica-World Financial Group Western Intercollegiate Championship at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, CA.
Set for the weekend of April 11-12 on an award winning MacKenzie-designed course, the Western Intercollegiate is one of the longest-running men’s golf championships in the United States. According to Tournament Director John Kennaday, San José State University’s men’s golf coach, this year’s field is impressive with eight teams ranked in the top-25 (Golfweek-Mar 30). Field includes: Texas (#3), Stanford (#8), Arizona State (#10), UCLA (#12), USC (#13), Washington (#18), Oregon (#19), California (#22), as well as Arizona, Hawaii, San Diego State, UC Irvine, UTEP, and host team San Jose State University.
Recent Western Intercollegiate alums are winners on either the PGA, Web or PGA Canada tours – Mark Hubbard, San Jose State (PGA Canada); Patrick Cantlay, UCLA (Web.com); Max Homa, Cal (Web.com); Jordan Spieth, Texas (PGA Tour); Patrick Rodgers, Stanford (Web.com); Patrick Reed, Augusta State (PGA Tour).
