ORLANDO, Fla. (April 9, 2015) – As today’s golf stars take center stage at the Masters this week, Golfweek is shining a spotlight on the stars of tomorrow in its annual Junior Issue. Underscoring the brand’s commitment to covering golf at every level of the game, Golfweek’s April 13 edition places a special emphasis on guiding juniors up the ranks.
For the issue’s cover story, Golfweek focuses on how junior golfers can achieve their goals of playing at the collegiate level as walk-ons. With insights from current and former players as well as coaches, this in-depth feature not only describes the challenges that face potential walk-ons, but also provides success stories and helpful tips to aid and inspire young readers.
“Not everyone can ride the fast track to stardom,” said Golfweek Editor Steve Harmon. “That’s why we dug into the concept of the non-scholarship college golfer and explored an alternative route for juniors aspiring to play college golf. We found that a surprising number of schools welcome walk-ons, so just because a junior golfer might not make the cut for a college scholarship, that doesn’t mean that the door is closed. Far from it.”
To complement the junior golf content, the April 13 issue also features the 2015 edition of Golfweek’s youngest course-rankings list: Golfweek’s Best Canadian Courses. Highlighting Canada’s top 40 Classic layouts (built before 1960) and top 40 Modern layouts (built since 1960), this year’s rankings feature The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Club and The Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Club leading the Classic list and Devil’s Paintbrush and Cabot Links topping the Modern list.
