Angels Camp, CA (April 20, 2015) – The NCAA Big Sky Men’s Golf Championship (previously known as the America Sky Championship) will be contested at Greenhorn Creek Resort for the second consecutive year, with eight college teams from one of golf’s strongest NCAA Division I conferences converging in Calaveras County, the heart of California’s Gold Country, for the tournament, April 27-29, 2015.
Sacramento State, the tournament host, plus teams from around the west and as far away as Connecticut (University of Hartford) and New York (Binghamton University), will bring their five-player teams to compete for the title and an automatic spot in the NCAA Regional Golf Tournament. In addition to last year’s champion, Northern Colorado, also playing are North Dakota, Southern Utah, Weber State and Idaho State, ranked #74 in the latest GOLFWEEK college poll.
“We are excited to host these collegiate athletes here at Greenhorn Creek to play a challenging and well-manicured golf course with tour quality greens,” says Allan Ramorini, Head Golf Pro at Greenhorn Creek.
This year’s tournament favorite, Idaho State, will be led by Jared du Toit, a sophomore from Canada, with six top-10 tournament finishes in 2015, and a scoring average ranked #10 in the country. Sacramento State, a strong contender, will bring three 2015 Big Sky Golfers of the Week – Aaron Beverly (twice), Taylor Knoll, and Luke Christo.
All players will be tested playing 72 holes over three days (36 on Monday) on the Robert Trent Jones, Jr. redesigned 6,801-yard championship layout with the lowest four scores from each team for each 18 holes will be totaled to determine the tournament champion.
“Greenhorn Creek is a great track demanding quality golf shots to be successful,” says Jon Kaspar, Media Relations for the Big Sky Conference. “You can’t just tee it up and let it rip so, if you hit a bad shot you better hope to bail out to the right area.”
Following Sunday’s practice round, the tournament starts each day at 8:00AM and spectators are welcome free of charge. For a complete schedule or additional player and team information, contact Jon Kasper (801) 392-1978 or jkasper@bigskyconference.com.
