(HARRIS, Mich.) – Sweetgrass Golf Club (http://www.sweetgrassgolfclub.com) – the award-winning amenity to Island Resort & Casino – kicks off preparations for the fifth Island Resort Championship, welcoming the LPGA Symetra Tour’s return, June 26-28.
“The Island Resort Championship has become a staple on the region’s golf calendar and an event players, sponsors and fans look forward to annually,” said Tony Mancilla, Island Resort Casino general manager and event co-chair.
Thousands of spectators attended the 2014 Island Resort Championship, won by Molly Aronsson, who charged from sixth place entering the final round to beat Sadena Parks by one stroke. Tournament sponsorship opportunities are on pace to once again sell out months in advance of the event.
The Symetra Tour continues growing as seven new events will be included this season. Total prize money is also at an all-time high in 2015 ($2.73 million).
“Recent growth in the women’s game allows aspiring LPGA professionals the opportunity to showcase their exceptional ability,” said Mancilla. “The tour benefits the local community and area fans get to see these up-and-coming professionals at an inexpensive cost.”
Three-day grounds passes to the 54-hole stroke-play tournament are $10 and now available at the Island Showroom on property. Children 17 years old and under get in free with a paying parent.
The Potawatomi Cup – a bonus competition including the four Native American casino resorts that host Symetra Tour events – will again award players points based on performance. The player who wins the most points across those four events earns additional cash.
