Haining, China – (April 24, 2015) – Entering its seventh year as one of the most famous golf tours in China, the committee of Golfuture announced the establishment of the BGGA-Golfuture International Golf Academy on April 21, 2015, in Haining City, ZhejIang Province, China. The deputy director of the General Administration of Sport in China & deputy chairman of the China Golf Association Yanmei Wang, committee member and Secretary General of Golfuture Wen Wu (Wendy Wu), General Manager of Bishops Gate Golf Academy Lee-Anne Misseldine, and the chairman of Lake Hill Golf (Haining) Ltd., Hongying Gu (Lucy Gu) hosted this Press Conference.
Although golf has developed rapidly in recent years, there are only 559 professional golfers in China, a group made up of 336 males and 223 females, and approximately 3000 amateurs. This ratio of amateurs to professionals is much lower than the ratio in other countries. Jessica Lee, writer at Tongzhe Public Relations Co. Ltd., writes “with golf returning to the Olympic games in 2016, cultivating top-tier golf players is the common problem confronting the whole industry.” In this environment, as Yanmei Wang said during the press conference, it is important to have Golfuture as a tool to help train and securee talented golf players.
Since its founding, Golfuture has led hundreds of talented players to the professional tours and has attracted more junior golfers toward competitive golf. April 19, 2015 was a big day for both Golfuture and China Golf: the first female champion on the Golfuture tour Yanhong Pan won the Australia Classic 2015, and the first male champion of the Golfture tour Haotong Li took second place at the Shenzhen International 2015. Haotong Li, now ranked 125 in the Official World Golf Ranking system, is likely to be the first Chinese professional who will be ranked in the top 100 worldwide.
Wendy Wu said Golfuture started its collaboration with BGGA in an effort to cultivate excellent junior players. In June of 2014, BGGA became Golfuture’s official training partner. Bishops Gate Golf Academy’s training programs are considered the best platform for developing junior players.
As a part of the Player Development Program, players from Golfuture spent 6 weeks in a Golfuture-BGGA Winter Training Camp in Florida, strengthening the partnership between Golfuture and BGGA. Following BGGA’s M.A.P. training philosophy, BGGA-Golfuture International Golf Academy will give players access to BGGA’s coaching team. Going beyond the traditional model of the mental, technical and physical elements of the game, BGGA’s coaching team strives to help each individual player unlock his or her full potential on and off the course.
Yanmei Wang said, “BGGA-Golfuture International Golf Academy will let more Chinese children enjoy the highest-level training system in China.”
Wendy Wu said: “The goal of BGGA-Golfuture International Golf Academy is not only to improve techniques, but also to be an incubation center to cultivate top players with global vision and transfer good players to national and international tournaments.”
Lee-Anne told journalists, “BGGA is a full-time golf academy with excellent coaches and world first-class facilities. We have Kevin Smeltz and Jonathan Yarwood leading our teaching team. With rich teaching experiences and unique methodology, we will provide more opportunities for students to join American amateur tours and let them gain more opportunities to grow.”
