Dublin, Ohio (April 24, 2015) – In the March/April edition of Golf Inc. Magazine, Fry/Straka member designed Fieldstone Golf Club in Greenville, Delaware was named one of three “Most Admired Private Clubs” in the United States. Nestled on 184 acres in the rolling hills of northern Delaware, Fieldstone is a scenic Par 71 course featuring dramatic elevation changes, bent fairways, numerous sets of tees and old-world bunkering. The pristine nature of the property was preserved to provide members and their guests with an unparalleled golf experience.
“We’re grateful for this recognition, but also for the members who really make Fieldstone the truly unique, “pure golf” club that it is,” said Mike Sander, General Manager of Fieldstone. “Our Troon Privé team is honored to spend our days focusing on providing a memorable experience, and to be the stewards of such a spectacular course.”
Designed under the Hurdzan/Fry banner and opened in 1999, hand-laid rock walls that wind through the property were preserved and incorporated into the design plan to create a unique golfing and visually stimulating experience. In selecting Fieldstone as a “Most Admired” club, Golf Inc. recognized those design elements, along with the purposeful attention to members and the isolated routing of the course. There are no housing developments and very few parallel holes, creating a true private experience.
“I believe Fieldstone is popular for many reasons but the overriding factor is the spectacular setting the golf course is in,” said Dana Fry, principal of Fry/Straka. “Some holes play along high ridge lines, others hit from top of the hills to the bottom of the valleys, and others just play in the valleys the entire way. Add to that the great natural vegetation, including massive specimen trees lining each hole, and all 18 holes become etched in a golfer’s mind forever.”
The honor for Fieldstone adds to a long list of accolades, including being named one of the best courses in Delaware by Golf Digest in its 2015-16 course rankings. For more information on the honor, visit www.golfincmagazine.com. For more information on the design, visit www.frystraka.com.
