PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – (May 1, 2015) – With a broad brush-stroke of renovation breathing new life into Tidewater GC, one of Myrtle Beach’s most renowned courses will be featured on the May episode of the award-winning Traveling Golfer television show.
Tidewater, which made a sensational debut on the Myrtle Beach golf scene in 1990, has long been one of the most awarded golf courses in the region. To this day it remains as the only course to be named “Best New Course” by both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine.
This month’s show revisits the history of this course, as well as taking an in-depth look at the major renovation that took place in the fall of 2014 and lasted until spring of 2015. In that renovation, a large number of trees were removed, the sub-soil structure of the greens was replaced to USGA specifications, and the putting surfaces were re-grassed with smooth-rolling TifEagle bermuda hybrid.
“Even though Tidewater is 25 years old, it feels as if you are playing the greatest new golf course in Myrtle Beach,” said host Tony Leodora, who made two trips to the course in 2015 to capture the essence of the transformation. “The conditions are the best ever. And the removal of all of the trees opened up so many great vistas of the adjacent Intracoastal Waterway.”
But golfers shouldn’t be fooled by the beauty of this beast. Tidewater is still one of the most demanding courses in the Myrtle Beach area. While fair and playable for all golfers, it requires precise shotmaking in order to produce really low scores.
“We are extremely proud of what has been done here at Tidewater,” says Head Professional Chris Cooper. “A lot of credit must be given to the ownership for biting the bullet and taking such a bold step with the renovation.”
Tidewater General Manager Archie Lemon adds, “From the beginning, Tidewater always was ranked at the top of the Myrtle Beach area courses. This extensive renovation guarantees that it will maintain its high reputation.”
The episode from Tidewater begins airing May 1 and runs throughout the month on The Traveling Golfer Network of websites … including the Golf Director Network (see full list of sites on www.travelinggolfervideo.com). It also will air on Monday, May 11 as part of the Press Box television show in Myrtle Beach, 5 to 7 p.m. on HTC Ch. 4. As of April, the Traveling Golfer began airing in its entirety as a scheduled weekly feature show on Comcast SportsNet in Philadelphia and on The Comcast Network throughout the Philadelphia market and the Mid-Atlantic market.
Responding to golfers’ never-ending demands to learn more about interesting golf courses and golf resorts across the country and around the world, well-traveled host Tony Leodora created the Traveling Golfer so he could take viewers on video golf trips to some of the most exciting golf locations. The show won a first place award for golf television broadcasts in the prestigious International Network of Golf Media Awards, presented at the PGA Merchandise Show in January.
The Traveling Golfer appears as a series of monthly shows hosted by Leodora, who has 15 years of experience in televised golf shows. The featured destination stays on the website for one month, before being replaced by a new show. The old shows are archived for continued viewing on the home website, www.travelinggolfervideo.com.
A network of golf websites, of all sizes, has been created to host the show. The show has its own website — www.travelinggolfervideo.com. The network of additional websites includes www.golftalklive.net, the website of the award-winning GolfTalk Live radio show that also is hosted by Leodora. Affiliate websites that also air the show are www.thegolfdirector.com, www.myphillygolf.com, www.sportsnetwork.com, www.louguzzi.com, www.yetigolf.net, www.golfbuckscounty.com, www.phillygolffiles.com, www.playaroundgolf.net, www.awaywegogolf.com, mynegm.com, www.golfxpress72.com, www.golfingmagli.com and americangolfer.blogspot.com.
