More than $2 million raised for Wounded Warrior Project
(VIENNA, VA) – Billy Casper Golf (BCG) – the largest owner-operator of golf courses, country clubs and resorts in the U.S. – will produce the fifth annual “World’s Largest Golf Outing” on Monday, August 3 to benefit Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP).
Registration is now open for the simultaneous golf outing that is expected to be played at more than 150 courses from New England to Hawaii. For the second-consecutive year, more than 100 BCG-managed courses and additional courses will host the highly emotional event open to all golfers regardless of ability; a USGA handicap is not required.
Part of event proceeds and 100% of donations from players and non-players benefit WWP, the national organization that honors and empowers injured service men and women, their caregivers and families – some of whom will play in the World’s Largest Golf Outing. Teams are encouraged to raise additional funds; donations to WWP unrelated to playing golf are made at www.worldslargestgolfouting.com.
Last year 12,100 golfers, including 364 injured service members, at 110 courses in 27 states raised more than $887,000 for WWP, the largest amount ever from a single-day golf event. This topped 2013 when 10,000 golfers raised $735,000. Since 2011, more than $2,000,000 has been donated in support of WWP programs and services.
“Our dear friend Billy Casper instilled a culture of helping others,” says Peter Hill, Chairman and CEO of BCG, of the golf legend who, at 83, passed away in early February. “Billy’s spirit lives on through everyone participating in the World’s Largest Golf Outing; giving back to the brave men and women who protect our daily freedoms meant so much to him.”
After the 2014 event, Billy Casper issued a challenge to America to raise more than $1,000,000 this year and, says Hill, “We can’t let him down.”
“Over the past five years, the generosity of golfers nationwide has been awe-inspiring,” says Adam Silva, chief development officer for WWP. “We are proud to continue uniting with Billy Casper Golf to make meaningful differences in the lives of the injured veterans, their caregivers and families we so humbly serve.”
