Country club offers youth golf lessons, team play to non-members, members
BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (May 7, 2015) – For the first time ever, Rancho Viejo Resort & Country Club is offering PGA Junior League Golf to children ages 13 and under. The league is open to members of the country club as well as, non-members. No golfing experience necessary. The registration deadline is Friday, May 29.
Fees for the Junior League Golf are $125 per child for non-members of RVRCC; the fee for members’ children is $100 per child. Participants will receive a team jersey, balls and coaching. Kids will learn how to play the team golf format and will compete in 5-6 matches hosted at the club. RVRCC needs 40 youngsters to participate in order to send a team to the PGA Junior League Regional golf tournament later in the summer. The pre-season begins with a meet and greet kick-off party on Sunday, May 31.
“This is the perfect opportunity for our youth – even beginners – to participate in team golf which is a less stressful scramble format as opposed to stroke play competition,” said Wendy Werley, LPGA Director of Sports and Wellness and the 2014 U.S. Kids Golf Top 50 Master Kids Teacher, “We hope our program will inspire them to develop a passion for the game.”
RVRCC’s Junior Golf Academy is led by Werley who started the game at age three, earned a 4 year full ride golf scholarship to The University of New Mexico and played professionally in the U.S. and Japan. The Academy also offers in (June, July and August) multiple-session summer golf camps for children age 3 & over. Open to members and non-members, these lessons are grouped by age, including Little Linksters, ages 3 to 6; Junior Girls Golf, ages 7 and up; Player Development and Training to Compete, ages 7 and up or test in; and Tournament Player for youth currently playing in STPGA events, school teams or other tours. Prices vary by category and include either the full series or individual sessions.
