“One of the great benefits of the tournament’s success is the ticket-donation program,” said Tony Mancilla, Island Resort & Casino general manager and event co-chair. “Last year we set an attendance record with more than 5,000 fans and we expect a similar turnout this summer.”
For a fifth straight year, Sweetgrass Golf Club, ranked a Golfweek 2015 “Best Course You Can Play” in Michigan, hosts a field of 144 players competing for a $125,000 purse and chance to win a 2016 LPGA Tour card. The Island Resort Championship is also part of the Potawatomi Cup, a series of tournaments involving courses with Native American Indian or Potawatomi tribal ties.
Volunteers continue to be sought, providing fans four complimentary admission passes, a free round of golf at Sweetgrass Golf Club, a staff shirt and meal tickets. Applications can be filled out until June 1 at deltami.org.
