Kay McMahon Honors David Letterman With Her Own Top Ten List – Swing Into Spring

May 19, 2015

LENOX , MA – David Letterman is retiring from The Late Show on CBS this week, and in honor of that, LPGA Hall of Fame golf instructor Kay McMahon of eduKaytion golf created her Top Ten Swing Into Spring List.

#10 – Change your old grips. Get new ones and make sure they fit your hand.

#9 – Stretch. Stretching can actually increase your distance. (ex: I played in a pro-am once with a Physical Therapist and every hole I got stretched, adding 20 yards by the end of the round. It works!)

#8 – Take a practice round or two. Don’t keep score. Simply go out and practice your swing on the course.

#7 – Evaluate your game. Know your weaknesses. Change and practice those.

#6 – At the range – Start with your short clubs, short swings, and work your way up to the driver. One day practice with even clubs and the next day practice with odd clubs.

#5 – Practice with tees on the range for all swings . The tee is your best shock absorber and allows you to focus on your swing. Also at most ranges the grass is fatigue and you can never find a decent lie.

#4 – Practice with a practice buddy. Have your buddy watch you and you watch her. Describe what you are working on and have the buddy give you feedback, but ONLY on what you are working on.

#3 – Never take advice from a stranger. If practicing alone at the range, there is always a “Helpful Harry”. Remind him or her, giving advice is against the rules and your instructor (You can use me if you like), told you not to take any “Tips” from strangers. Just like the candy idea when you were kids. Never a good idea.

#2 – Develop a Pre-shot routine every time on the range. We use G-CAP for our acronym for a pre-shot routine that is done in the right order. First Grip the club, then Clubhead on ground, then Align your feet and Posture happens automatically. Don’t be a “Ruthie Rack It In”. Start over every time by practicing how you play.

#1 – Practice in parts and in slow motion. Watch the club – NOT the ball. Become aware of what you are doing and you will accomplish and change habits in a much shorter amount of time. Do this same on the golf course. Use your practice swings to practice something!

Then when all is said . . .Learn how to De-Clutter your brain and make the golf swing simple – Golf 8.5.
