Hall of Fame posthumously inducts golf legends Donald J. Ross and Richard S. Tufts

Pinehurst, NC- The 2015 Legacy of the Links Top 100 Invitational golf tournament and Top 100 Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Pinehurst Resort were both a tremendous success. The 36-hole event, which took place on Pinehurst’s courses No. 2 and No. 4, attracted players from “Top 100” ranked golf courses and clubs from around the globe.

“We had teams from Royal Dornoch in Scotland, Portmarnock in Ireland, Ganton in England and New South Wales in Australia as well as several top clubs from the U.S.,” said event Co-Founder Kevin McGrath. “A good time was had by all, especially teams garnering a Tipperary Crystal trophy.”

Adding to the amazing “Top 100” golf experience was the 2015 Hall of Fame induction ceremony, where Legacy of the Links posthumously inducted two of golf’s revered legends: world-renown golf course architect Donald J. Ross and Pinehurst’s Richard S. Tufts who was represented by his grandson, Rick Tufts (great-great-grandson of Founder James Walker Tufts).

The 3-day event included compelling presentations from Audrey Moriarty, Director of the Tufts Archive and golf course architect Richard Mandell, Associate ASGCA, author of The Legendary Evolution of Pinehurst, Home of American Golf. Final presenter was Lee Pace, author of several books including The Golden Age of Pinehurst: The Story of the Rebirth of No. 2, which focused on the masterful course renovation by the design team of Coore & Crenshaw.

The popular Legacy of the Links golf experience also included a fundraiser auction with several unique golf-related items including stay & play packages at “Top 100” golf courses and resorts. According to event Co-founder Taba Dale, proceeds from the auction benefit St. Andrews University Library and are earmarked for its forthcoming Center for Golf Collections.

“Our goal was to provide a memorable experience for every participant both on-and-off the course and at the same time raise funds for a worthy cause,” said Taba Dale. “I am delighted to report the event was a resounding success with an elevated level of camaraderie throughout. Many of the folks participating this year are already making plans to attend next year, too.”
