Luxury hotel brand to donate to AT&T Byron Nelson beneficiary if golf pro makes hole-in-one
DALLAS (May 26, 2015) – Omni Hotels & Resorts today announced it has a special reason to cheer at this week’s AT&T Byron Nelson golf tournament: If Omni-sponsored PGA TOUR professional Matt Jones makes a hole-in-one, the hotel chain will donate $100,000 to the Momentous Institute of Dallas, owned and operated by the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, which serves 6,000 children and families each year through mental health and education programs.
Jones, the popular Australian who won the 2014 Shell Houston Open, will be playing for the Momentous Institute in the second round Friday, May 29, when he gets to the par-3 17th hole at the TPC Four Seasons Resort in Dallas. If Jones makes a hole-in-one at the 17th, Omni Hotels & Resorts will donate $100,000 to the Momentous Institute. If Jones does not ace the 17th on Friday, he will try again during Sunday’s final round, provided he makes the cut.
Now in his eighth season on the PGA TOUR, Jones has made one career hole-in-one, at the 2009 U.S. Bank tournament in Milwaukee. This is his first year being sponsored by Dallas-based Omni Hotels & Resorts, and the first time he is playing in the AT&T Byron Nelson since 2012.
Jones, 35, is from Sydney, Australia. He competed at Arizona State University, where he was a first-team All-America selection. He turned pro in 2001 and has won more than $8 million on the PGA TOUR. He and his wife, Melissa, a former Miss Idaho, have two young daughters.
The 198-yard 17th hole features an amphitheater design, so it is always surrounded by excited fans. Protected by water, the green is shaped to allow players to feed their shots toward the hole.
