(VIENNA, VA) – Billy Casper Golf Chairman and CEO Peter Hill was presented the prestigious Talkhouse Award for Community Service at the 10th Annual Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Courage Awards & Benefit Dinner on Thursday, May 28 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.
The award is in recognition of Hill’s brainchild, the World’s Largest Golf Outing, the simultaneous golf outing across America that has raised more than $2 million for WWP since its inception in 2011.
In addition to Hill, actor Mark Wahlberg was recognized with the new James Gandolfini Award for his participation in commercials highlighting WWP and the challenges service members face as they transition back into civilian life. Wahlberg became an advocate for veterans’ issues during the launch of his film, “Lone Survivor.”
“Our Billy Casper Golf team has embraced the values of patriotism and compassion to help advance the Wounded Warrior Project mission to honor and empower Wounded Warriors,” says Hill. “While I’m deeply honored to receive this award, the real heroes are our armed forces and the thousands of golfers who play in the largest single-day golf fundraiser to benefit WWP.”
Past Talkhouse Award recipients include Under Armour Chairman and CEO Kevin Plank, Tough Mudder, U-Haul, the New York Police and Fire Departments, singer Trace Adkins and baseball star Johnny Damon.
“Billy Casper Golf came to us simply with the desire to help,” says Adam Silva, Chief Development Officer for WWP. “Our relationship is amazing and it is awe-inspiring the event has grown into a national fundraiser transforming countless lives.”
The 2015 World’s Largest Golf Outing is on Monday, August 3 and played coast to coast at more than 150 courses managed by Billy Casper Golf, Troon Golf, ClubCorp and Toll Brothers Golf. The event is open to all golfers regardless of ability; a USGA handicap is not required. Part proceeds and 100% of donations benefit WWP.
Last year’s recording-breaking edition saw 12,100 golfers, including 364 injured service members and even the nation’s 42nd President Bill Clinton, raise more than $887,000 for WWP. This topped 2013 when 10,000 golfers raised $735,000.
