2013 PGA champion Dufner and the charismatic Perez will contribute exclusive behind-the-scenes content to Secret Golf website and app
Major champion and popular golfer Jason Dufner, and Pat Perez, one of the most charismatic players on the PGA TOUR, have joined the Secret Golf team.
“You have PGA TOUR Players, not to mention major winners, not just telling you but showing you what they’re thinking when they’re faced with a given situation on a given hole under tournament pressure and you can’t get that content anywhere else and that’s the kind of material that makes this app and this website so unique. You can practice, you can strategize, you can plan, but when you get into the heat of the moment, what are you going to do? These guys are actually doing it and telling us what they’re thinking at that moment and that’s awesome,” Secret Golf CEO Vito Palermo said.
“I consider Jason and Pat my good friends and it is incredible to hear the differences on how we play the same holes,” Elkington said. “They are both very different personalities and thinkers. Jason is an incredible ball-striker and a strategist who takes what is in front of him and plans accordingly. Pat is an unpredictable, raw, supremely talented player who learns as he goes. This is going to provide Secret Golf members with an incredibly rich trove of commentary and interesting analysis.”
The owner of three PGA TOUR titles (the 2012 Zurich Classic of New Orleans, the 2012 HP Byron Nelson Championship and the 2013 PGA Championship), Dufner is one of the brightest up-and-coming stars in golf. He went 3-1-0 at the 2012 Ryder Cup, being one of only three Americans to win a Sunday singles match.
The Auburn graduate broke through on the TOUR in 2009, when he finished 11th in the FedExCup standings, earned more than $2 million and racked up six top-10 finishes.
“The reason I was attracted to Secret Golf is because it has always been about sharing golf truths,” Dufner said. “People deserve the truth when it comes to golf instruction. Sharing how the pros learned the game and how they play should really help golfers.”
Since bursting on the scene in 2002 as only the eighth rookie to surpass $1 million in season earnings, Perez has been a player who combines consistency; he has comfortably been in the top-125 on the money list every year, with an ability to go very low. He owns a 60 (shot in 2006 at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic) and two 61s in tournament play.
Perez’s lone victory came in 2009 at the 50th Bob Hope Classic, when he parked a 6-iron 200 yards to within three feet on the final hole to set up eagle. Earlier that week, he said he was having trouble hitting his 6-iron, but “wasn’t going to lay up there.”
“I’ve followed what Elk and Secret Golf have been doing since the very beginning,” Perez said. “There’s a lot of misinformation out there. A lot of conflicting ideas and golfers need a filter. Prioritizing the information is something that we can help golfers do because we’ve gone through the whole learning process and have tested it under pressure. Secret Golf is providing a platform to share that experience. It feels good to be a part of it.”
