ORLANDO, Fla. (July 7, 2015) åÂ- As the Open Championship approaches, Golfweek turns its attention toward the birthplace of golf with the release of its sixth annual Golfweek’s Best Courses of Great Britain & Ireland lists. In addition to unveiling 2015’s top Classic courses (built before 1960) and top Modern courses (built in 1960 or later) lists, the magazine’s July 13 issue also offers an inside look at this year’s Open Championship.
“The occasion of the upcoming Open Championship at St. Andrews is an appropriate moment for us to celebrate traditional links golf, as we do with our Golfweek’s Best lists for Great Britain and Ireland,” said Bradley S. Klein, national director of the Golfweek’s Best rating program. “Not surprisingly, links courses dominate both lists at the top: Royal County Down (No. 1), St. Andrews’ Old Course (No. 2) and Royal Dornoch (No. 3) on the Classic side; and on the Modern side, Trump International Golf Links Scotland (No. 1), Kingsbarns (No. 2) and Castle Stuart (No. 3).”
Along with the full lists of Golfweek’s Best Courses of Great Britain & Ireland, the magazine’s Open Championship Preview Issue will also explore St. Andrews’ distinctive course characteristics and the recent architectural modifications that will affect play at the July 16-19 tournament. Capping off the Open Preview will be a feature on Jordan Spieth as he prepares for the third leg in his quest for the Grand Slam.
