Four Tullymore Classic Golfers Playing In The U.S. Women's Open This Week

STANWOOD – DeWitt’s Liz Nagel is among four of the golfers who wowed the crowd at the Tullymore Classic last weekend playing in this week’s U.S. Women’s Open at Lancaster Country Club in Lancaster, Pa., according to the LPGA.
Nagel, a former Michigan State standout who has conditional status on the LPGA Tour this season as well as status on the Symetra Tour, will carry the home state flag, but the Tullymore and Canadian Lakes area residents who welcomed players last week will also want to pay special attention to Lee Lopez, Haruka Morita-WamyaoLu and Alejandra Llaneza.
Lopez, who tied for second at Tullymore (-15) with a tour-tying record 62 in the closing round, certainly appeared ready for the Open. Her 62 at Tullymore is the course record for women, and one off the course record set by six-time Michigan Open winner Scott Hebert in a Northern Michigan PGA Chapter Championship last year.
Morita-WamyaoLu, who tied for second with Lopez at Tullymore, as well as Alejandra Llaneza, who tied for 13th with a 9-under performance, were on the leaderboard often last weekend and will try the same in Lancaster.
DeWitt’s Nagel, who was 2-under through the three rounds at Tullymore, said she would need her putting stroke to come around for the Open.
“My ball striking is right there, and I had so many birdie chances (at Tullymore) that I just didn’t convert,” she said. “I will get my short game ready, and be ready for the Open.”
Brooke Henderson, the 17-year-old Canadian prodigy who was supposed to play at Tullymore via a sponsor’s exemption, is in the Open field and expected to play. She had to withdraw from the Tullymore Classic after suffering some minor injuries in a car accident in the Canadian Lakes area early last week. Her sister Britney, who did play at Tullymore, is going to caddie for her this week in Lancaster.
