Live Morning Drive reports from courses in Orlando, Fla., and Dulles, Va.
ORLANDO, Fla. (July 22, 2015) – Morning Drive Co-hosts Lauren Thompson and Bailey Mosier will report live from the fifth annual “World’s Largest Golf Outing,” a simultaneous golf outing to be played at more than 150 courses across North America on Aug. 3 and benefiting Wounded Warrior Project.
Thompson will be on location at Dubsdread Golf Course in Orlando, Fla., and Mosier at 1757 Golf Club in Dulles, Va., providing live updates for Golf Channel’s daily news and lifestyle show. Peter Hill, Chairman and CEO of Billy Casper Golf, also is scheduled to join the show on Friday, July 31, from the PGA TOUR’s Quicken Loans National to discuss the biggest one-day celebration of golf and charity.
Billy Casper Golf, which founded the “World’s Largest Golf Outing,” has joined forces with Troon, ClubCorp and Toll Golf to host the event at a record number of courses this year. The event is open to all golfers regardless of ability, and there is no USGA handicap required.
“Our dear friend Billy Casper instilled a culture of helping others,” said Hill, speaking of the late golf legend who proudly served in the Navy and entertained American troops overseas as a golf professional. “Billy’s spirit lives on through everyone participating in the World’s Largest Golf Outing. Giving back to the brave men and women who protect our daily freedoms meant so much to him.”
Golf Channel’s digital businesses – including www.GolfChannel.com/Golf Cares, www.GolfNow.com and www.GolfAdvisor.com – will join Morning Drive in support the event online and via social media.
“We’re proud to help support this worthy endeavor,” said Adam Hertzog, vice president, News and Studio Productions for Golf Channel. “Lauren and Bailey are looking forward to taking our viewers on location to showcase the positive impact this event has to benefit our wounded veterans.”
Last year, 12,100 golfers, including 364 injured service members, at 110 golf courses in 27 states raised more than $887,000 for Wounded Warrior Project, the largest amount ever for a single-day golf event. Since its inception, the “World’s Largest Golf Outing” has donated more than $2 million in support of Wounded Warrior Project programs and services.
Part of event proceeds and 100 percent of donations from players and non-players benefit Wounded Warrior Project, the national organization that honors and empowers injured service men and women, their caregivers and families – some of whom will play in the “World’s Largest Golf Outing.” Teams are encouraged to raise additional funds. All golfers will be entered into a drawing for a grand prize trip for four to the Nike Campus in Beaverton, Ore., for custom club fitting. The team raising the most funds will win a trip for four to Kiawah Island Golf Resort to play The Ocean Course, site of the 2012 PGA Championship.
