Events in August, October will add to $270,000 in donations
KENNESAW, Ga — (July 23, 2015) – Now in its seventh year, Governors Towne Club is launching this year’s GTC Gives Back, a series of events for members and the public to raise awareness and help find a cure of breast cancer. Since the event began at the suggestion of club members in 2009, GTC Gives Back has raised more than $270,000.
“Our members are passionate about this cause and are supportive every year with their time, their talents and their financial support,” said Pat Curry, USTPA, GPTA, director of tennis, aquatics and activities at Governors Towne Club. “They’re involved in the planning and make this one of our premier public events. And we’re proud to continue to help in the fight against breast cancer.”
GTC Gives Back will take place this year with events in August and October. The “Pink Scramble” golf event is scheduled for Saturday, August 8, with 18 holes of golf, best-ball scramble format. Participants will end the day with a barbecue, beverages and entertainment. Prizes will be awarded for longest drive, closest to the pin, putting contest and other competitions. Breakfast, lunch, beverages and the 19th-hole After Party are included in the registration fee of $125 per person. For non-golfers who wish to attend the 19th-hole After Party, the cost is $25.
On August 14-15, Governors Towne Club hosts Tennis Round Robin matches for Ladies Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Juniors’ Doubles and Men’s Doubles. Women who register for the August 14 Ladies Doubles morning session are invited to the Ladies’ Luncheon on Friday featuring Carletta Cunningham’s story as a breast-cancer survivor. For non-tennis players, the cost of the luncheon is $25.
GTC Gives Back continues into the fall with a special Wine and Art event – An Evening in Napa Valley – with renowned artist Thomas Arvid and wine expert David Long on Thursday, October 29. The formal event will include a three-course meal with wine pairings from the David Arthur Vineyards and a showing of works by Arvid. More details will be forthcoming about this event that will be open to the public with advance reservations.
