CARLSBAD, Calif. (August 10, 2015) – Nippon Shaft on Sunday (Aug. 9) claimed its fifth PGA TOUR victory and its seventh worldwide this season at the Barracuda Championship at Montreax Golf and Country Club in Reno, Nevada.
The 40-year-old champion out of Fort Worth, Texas used Nippon Shaft’s N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 130 S-flex in his irons to score a 72-hole total of 47 points to get into the two-man playoff in the TOUR’s modified Stableford scoring event. He made a 15-foot putt for eagle on the second playoff hole to seal the victory.
In addition to its five PGA TOUR victories during the 2014-15 season, Nippon Shaft has recorded two victories on the European Tour.
“Nippon Shaft congratulates the winner of the Barracuda Championship on his sudden death victory in Reno,” said Hiro Fukuda, sales and marketing for Nippon Shaft. “We are proud that he entrusted his game to Nippon Shaft’s steel shafts. Our demanding manufacturing process achieves the precision and quality that PGA TOUR players demand of their own shot-making.”
In addition to the Barracuda Championship, Nippon Shaft boasted champions at the Humana in Palm Springs, the OHL Classic in Mayakoba, Mexico, and the CIMB Classic in Malaysia in November.
Nippon Shaft recently announced that over 70 players on the U.S. and European PGA Tours utilized various models of Nippon Shaft’s steel shafts in their irons and wedges during the 2013-14 season, an increase of 69.5% over the previous year. Fifty-six U.S. PGA TOUR players and 14 European Tour members chose from among five types of Nippon Shaft steel shafts to outfit their irons. Iron shaft models used were the N.S. PRO 950GH, the N.S.
