August 17, 2015, San Diego, CA – Grandura™ Golf, makers of Grandura Golf Shafts powered by BST Nano Carbon®, is pleased to introduce the company’s executive team with a combined 75 years of golf industry experience. The executive team includes Randy Beck, CEO; Gary Beck, COO; Ron Wheeler, Executive Vice President; Paul E. Smithers, Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel; and Richard Tambone, Chief Investment Officer.
The team of Randy Beck, Gary Beck and Ron Wheeler founded HST, Inc. in 1989. The company produced over 40,000,000 carbon golf shafts for Callaway Golf, Taylor Made Golf, Ping Golf, Cleveland Golf, Cobra Golf, Titleist Golf, Nicklaus Golf and many others.
Under the direction of Beck, Beck and Wheeler, HST was involved in the design and production of innovative new shafts including Taylor Made Golf’s ‘Flex Twist’ and ‘Flex Twist Plus’ golf shafts; Taylor Made Golf’s Bubble Shaft and Bubble Shaft 2, using HST’s proprietary vacuum assisted molding machines; Ping Golf shafts using a proprietary viscoelastic material sandwiched in between the carbon layers in the handle of the golf shaft that removed unwanted vibrations; and Callaway Golf’s Pro Series (PGA Tour) golf shafts.
In addition to designing shafts, HST co-designed and produced the first polyurethane putter-face inserts for Odyssey / Callaway Golf and Callaway Golf’s C4 Driver carbon composite golf head using HST’s proprietary molding machines. They designed and developed a new manufacturing process for Ping’s Rapture Driver, their first carbon titanium driver.
HST also pioneered the use of vacuum assisted molding to make complex carbon composite shapes for golf heads and golf shafts and pioneered the use of Infra-red curing of polyurethane paints to enable efficient mass production of painted carbon golf heads and shafts by bringing down the cure times from 1 ½ hours to 3 minutes.
Paul Smithers is a native Californian who has been practicing law for over 30 years. He is a cofounder of BST and currently serves as BST’s Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel. Paul’s expertise includes advising startups, business formations, acquisitions, contract negotiations, Human Resources, and all the other miscellaneous legal matters related to the running of a successful business.
“The people that make up our organization are named inventors on over 170 golf patents and have more than 220 years of combined experience in the golf industry,” said Randy Beck. “This team has succeeded in designing a line of shafts that are better, more consistent and more playable than most of the shafts on the market today. FINALLY, SOMETHING DIFFERENT.”
Richard Tambone has a background in successful entrepreneurship centered in the real estate development business in South Florida, the Southwest and the Greater Boston markets. Mr. Tambone launched his first development business in 1981 in South Florida, Tambone Real Estate Development Corporation, a full-service development firm specializing in the building and ownership of Class “A” office/research, retail and industrial facilities. The company quickly became one of South Florida’s premier commercial developers, building and acquiring over 10 million square feet of space for a diverse group of Fortune 500 companies including Motorola, Inc., Wackenhut Corporation and Sony Professional Products, Inc.
In 1996, Tambone expanded to the U.S./Mexico border trade market with industrial build-to-suits in Santa Teresa, New Mexico. Due to the growing industrial activity and Tambone’s emerging national presence, Mr. Tambone, along with his wife Lori, founded Tambone Investment Group, Incorporated headquartered in the Boston suburb of Burlington, Massachusetts. Tambone Investment Group is a full-service real estate development organization focused on acquiring and developing industrial and residential facilities in the Greater Boston area.
“I am very pleased to be working with an executive team that has the experience, knowledge and ability to design and produce the finest composite golf shafts ever made,” said Tambone. “The team we have put together is one of the strongest and most talented that I’ve seen in the golf industry.”
