September 9 regional mid-amateur event leads up to USGA Championship in October

ACWORTH, Ga — (September 4, 2015) – The top eight players in the USGA Qualifier at Cobblestone Golf Club in Acworth on Wednesday, September 9, will progress to the USGA Mid-Amateur Championship next month. This is the first time Cobblestone has hosted the qualifier.

“Out of the 64 qualifiers across the country, ours is one of the largest competitive fields with 132 golfers registered to play,” said Terry Harnage, general manager of the public golf course in Cobb County. “With amateur competitors from Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee, the competition for those eight winning positions will be especially fierce in this high-profile event.”

Harnage said a number of players have already begun their independent practice rounds at the club. “Our own Cobblestone players know the course, but competitors from other states have been here over the last few weeks to play the course,” he said. “The course is in excellent shape and the greens are fast and true.”

Players must be members of the U.S. Golf Association to compete in the qualifiers, but membership at Cobblestone is not a prerequisite. The USGA Championship takes place at the Johns Island Club in Vero Beach, Florida, on the weekend of October 3-4.

Cobblestone has also been awarded the Georgia State Public Links Championship for next year. It will take place the weekend of September 10-11, 2016.

Located on the banks of Lake Acworth in Acworth, Georgia, Cobblestone Golf Course has been a long-standing favorite for Metro-Atlanta Golfers. Owned by Cobb County and operated by Mosaic Clubs & Resorts, Cobblestone is one of the most popular and accessible public golf courses in the North Atlanta. It is located at 4200 Nance Road NW, Acworth. For more information call the club at 770-917-5151 or visit www.cobblestonegolf.com.

Cobblestone opened in 1993 and underwent a full renovation in 2010. Offering Champion Bermuda greens, white-sand bunkers and a lakefront Ken Dye design, Cobblestone Golf Course has racked up the awards and accolades over the years. These awards include a Four Star rating by Golf Digest, a spot on the (2011, 2012, 2013) “Top 100 Courses You Can Play” by Golf Magazine, and “2011 Best Municipal Courses in The US” by Golfweek.
