Perfect storm of vision, disruptive technology and world-class expertise

Rancho Santa Fe, CA – September 14, 2015 – “If they taught sex like they teach golf, the human population would have died out centuries ago”, according to Jim Murray, Pulitzer Prizewinning sportswriter for both Sports Illustrated and the LA Times.

According to Howard Reisman, Founder/CEO of Own My Swing, “The golf instruction business in America is clearly broken! More than three million golfers quit the game each year, many finding the game too difficult and frustrating. With all of the improvements in equipment, balls, and instructional tools the average handicap index has not changed in 30 years – it is still 19.1!”

“PGA teaching professionals basically receive their accreditation by sitting through a number of seminars observing someone else teaching without ever really learning the fundamentals of teaching or how the brain actually learns”, Reisman explains. “In fact, there are no real standards with each professional being left on their own after having paid many thousands of dollars in certification fees. No wonder many of these teaching professionals are either struggling to earn a living or forced to give up their passion and take jobs outside the golf industry.”

Prior to founding Own My Swing, Howard Reisman, a successful high-tech entrepreneur, sold his 20-year-old enterprise software company and semi-retired in his late forties. Reisman had been a single-digit handicap since age 16, club champion and golf team regular for decades. However, between family and business responsibilities his handicap started to creep up to 10 and then eventually 15.In a futile attempt to improve, Reisman took many lessons from numerous teachings professionals over the years, each with a different message and teaching method. According to Reisman, “It was no fun hacking the ball around when I could remember how well I played in my youth.” Reisman finally quit golf entirely only to take up flying which quickly became his passion. He not only become an instrument and commercially rated pilot, but also created the industry’s first FAA-Accepted Avionics Performance Training Software designed to prevent accidents like the JFK. Jr. tragedy. In 2005 Reisman then went on to found MolecularFitness.com addressing the health and fitness marketplace.

Then at the age 68 Reisman decided to take up golf again and was committed this time to seriously improve so he might enjoy playing golf for the rest of his life. So in 2013 he hired one of the world’s best-known teaching professionals who he placed on a very healthy monthly retainer! “After six months the guy still had me on the driving range only, not allowed to play on the course, and only allowed to hit balls off a tee with a flat lie! Imagine – that’s after he pocketed tens of thousands of dollars of my hard-earned money!” Reisman emphasized.

Not accepting defeat, and utilizing his high-tech entrepreneurial talent Reisman was able to determine that there were at least two disruptive technologies that were becoming commercially available that could address both the physical golf swing as well as the mental aspect of the game.

“It all came down to solving two problems,” founder Reisman explained “Firstly, how could we develop an efficient, repeatable, golf swing that any golfer could learn without ever seeing a swing coach again?” Reisman added, “In my opinion PGA teaching professionals should be spending less time on the range and more team on the course teaching students how to hit off of uneven lies, out of bunkers, course strategy etc.” Reisman explained.”Secondly, how could we develop any golfer’s ability to execute that swing under pressure, whether it be to win the club championship or The PGA Championship?” Reisman remarked.

Utilizing his visionary, technology and leadership skills, Reisman has assembled one of the finest teams of engineers, programmers, biomechanics and performance coaches in the world in order to make this a new era in golf instruction a reality!
