Event of the year on the Golf Channel AmTour Hosted by famed courses at The Club at PGA West; competitors, ages 11-82, represent 42 U.S. states, Canada and the Caribbean

ORLANDO, Fla. (Sept. 17, 2015) – The anticipation of more than 1,200 golfers – ranging in age from 11 to 82 and representing 42 U.S. states, Canada and the Caribbean who qualified via their participation in the world’s largest amateur golf tour – will culminate with heated competition at the 2015 edition of the Golf Channel AmTour National Championships (http://nationalchampionship.gcamtour.com/), (Sept. 18-28) at The Club at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif.

The Golf Channel Am Tour National Championships are divided into two events – Open National Championship, Sept. 18-22, and Senior National Championship (ages 50+), Sept. 24-28. Three courses at famed PGA West will serve as hosts for both competitions, including the Greg Norman Resort Course, the Nicklaus Tournament Course and the TPC Stadium Resort Course. The Nicklaus Tournament and TPC Stadium courses will host the 2016 CareerBuilder Challenge on the PGA TOUR.

Several NBC Sports/Golf Channel on-air personalities will participate in the National Championships welcome dinners, including NBC Sports golf analyst David Feherty, who is slated to regale competitors with his unique brand of humor during the open division dinner on Sept. 18. Feherty also is co-founder of Feherty’s Troops First Foundation (http://www.troopsfirstfoundation.org/), a non-profit organization that develops, operates and supports initiatives to benefit today’s military personnel, which also is the AmTour’s designated charity. Golf Channel Travel Insider Matt Ginella and Golf Central anchor Lisa Cornwell will attend the senior division welcome dinner on Sept. 24.

The format for both the open and senior division championships is a 72-hole, individual stroke-play competition with no cut. Each contestant will play one 18-hole round at each of the four courses.

Twelve competitors in six flights – six from the senior division and six from the open division – will be crowned national champions in official awards ceremonies immediately following the conclusion of their respective tournaments. Thirty former national champions, including five defending champions in the senior division and four in the open division, will be competing this year.
