Golf tournament on October 12 to benefit Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

(THE COLONY, Texas) – Old American Golf Club – the award-winning Tripp Davis/Justin Leonard design that honors the “Golden Age” of golf course architecture – will host the 2015 Rod Pampling Golf Classic charity golf tournament, Oct. 12.

Benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the shotgun tournament has a 9 a.m. start with registration at 7:30 a.m. Pampling and several of his friends from the Web.com and PGA Tours are scheduled to appear.

To participate in the event or to learn more about the benefits of becoming a sponsor (including hole sponsorships), contact Amy Van Vranken of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at 214.871.2222 or email her at avanvranken@cff.org.

A pre-tournament cocktail reception and live auction emceed by CBS Sports golf commentator Ian Baker-Finch and local television personality John Rhadigan will be held from 7-10 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the Glass Cactus at the Gaylord Texan. Tickets are $75 per person.

Auction items up for bid include a trip for two to Antigua, a TPC Sawgrass golf getaway, a duck hunt for four (4) with David Feherty, a skiing excursion with an Olympian and more.

The 2014 event raised more than $140,000, increasing the overall total of funds generated to more than $1 million.

“We’re thrilled once again to be the host venue for the Rod Pampling Golf Classic and to be a part of such a wonderful event for a worthy cause,” says Mike McCabe, general manager of Old American. “We invite area golfers to sign up and help cure and control this devastating disease, while also revisiting Old American and learning about our exciting plans for 2016.”

Pampling sports the Old American logo on his bag and holds the course record at Old American (66). Earlier this year, the Dallas resident won the BMW Charity Pro-Am on the Web.com Tour. He finished the 2015 Web.com Tour season 17th on the money list, and will return to the PGA Tour in 2016.

Old American is also making a return, as it is now open for member and limited outside play after being closed for much of 2015 due to record-setting rainfall and lake levels at Lake Lewisville.

About Old American Golf Club

Inspired by the “Golden Age” of golf course architecture between 1911 and 1937, Old American Golf Club’s natural contours, hazard styles, native grasses and green shapes were influenced by such masterpieces as Shinnecock Hills, National Golf Links, Prairie Dunes and Crystal Downs.

Acclaimed architect Tripp Davis, an accomplished amateur player and former All-American at the University of Oklahoma and PGA TOUR/Ryder Cup star Justin Leonard, who played golf at the University of Texas, toured and played a handful of America’s classic Golden Age golf courses prior to starting the design process for Old American.

The result is a golf course that emphasizes strategy and shot-making and flows with a natural rhythm from first tee to 18th green. Old American features six sets of tees, ranging from the 5,215-yard forward markers to the 7,174-yard “Leonard” tournament tees. Davis and Leonard conceived the routing and layout with both medal and match play in mind, as golfers are required to hold “steady to par” through a number of holes, but enticed to gamble on birdie or better during select stretches of the course.
