(Palm Springs, CA) – The Federation for International FootGolf (FIFG), the sole governing body of FootGolf globally, formally sanctions the U.S. FootGolf National Championship conducted by the American FootGolf League (AFGL). The Championship is being held on Oct. 3, 2015 at Sydney Marovitz Golf Course in Chicago, IL.
“The FIFG congratulates the AFGL for organizing America’s first and only official national championship,” says FIFG president Michael O’Connor. “Every major sport has a national champion, and we see this U.S. event as the first of many, many more to come. As such, the FIFG will formerly recognize these champions as the sole title holders in America. Good luck to all, and I look forward to meeting you at the 2016 FootGolf World Cup in Argentina.”
U.S. national FootGolf champions will be crowned in the Men’s (age 18-45), Senior Men’s (age 46 and older), and Women’s (age 18 and older) divisions. Also, a team championship will be awarded to an AFGL registered FootGolf club. The top three players (men and women combined) will earn a spot on the U.S. FootGolf World Cup team.
“This promises to be an intense competition along the shore of beautiful Lake Michigan,” says AFGL president Laura Balestrini. “We’ll have nearly 100 players representing almost half the states, plus a foreign contingent checking out the potential World Cup competitors. We thank the staff at Sydney Marovitz Golf Course, and Billy Casper Golf for hosting our first national championship. We also thank the FIFG for its support and sanctioning of the event. We want there to be no doubt who the national champions are, and how they’ll be honored around the world. So, let the play begin!”
