Richmond, VA- The Country Club of Virginia (CCV) has broken the code on getting girls involved in team golf. Eric Layton, PGA Director of Instruction and Summer Lee, PGA Head Professional at CCV have fielded two all-girls teams out of their five facility teams for the MAPGA Fall Junior League. During the first year of their Fall League, CCV had six girls sign up. Eric approached one of the moms at the end of that season and asked her if she thought that the girls would enjoy playing on an all-girls team. By that afternoon they had twelve girls interested. Signups for the MAPGA Fall Junior League team opened on a Saturday morning and they were planning to take a maximum of fourteen girls for the team. They had twenty-two girls signed up by noon and a total of twenty-seven by the end of the day! Eric and Summer are the captains of the girls teams. The team at CCV asked members of the 18-Hole Ladies League to be mentors for the girls MAPGA Junior League Teams. Each mentor was assigned to a group at the practices while the captains floated between groups. This program turned out to be a win-win for both the 18-Hole Ladies and the MAPGA Junior League girls, the 18-Hole Ladies were able to give back, the girls learned from them and everyone had a great time!
