Isabela, P.R. (Sept. 30, 2015) – Usually it’s the land that supports a golf course. This time, the golf course is helping support the land.
On Saturday, October 31, 2015, The Links at Royal Isabela-the highly acclaimed golf course in Isabela, Puerto Rico-will host the third annual El Pastillo Golf Classic. Proceeds from the event benefit El Pastillo Conservation Trust, which was established by Stanley and Charlie Pasarell, natives of Puerto Rico and founders of Royal Isabela, in cooperation with Puerto Rico’s Departamento de Recursos Naturales y Ambientales (DRNA). The Trust is dedicated to preserving El Pastillo Beach and its surrounding cliffs.
“Royal Isabela is very lucky and proud to inhabit this spectacularly beautiful piece of earth,” says Stanley Pasarell, managing partner of Royal Isabela. “We are dedicated to protecting this unique, ocean-front ecosystem with its cliffs, dunes, wetlands, caves, and all its native flora and fauna. We are stewards to this special place and our goal is to preserve it for the enjoyment of the current and future generation.”
The Trust has four initiatives for this land, which is located in the northwest corner of Puerto Rico. Those initiatives are security, conservation, restoration, and most importantly, education. Under the education initiative the Trust is focused on increasing the community’s awareness and involvement as well as conducting scientific and medical research.
This past summer the Trust was part of a research program offering agrotherapy to autistic adolescents and their parents. COPAFI’s (Acuerdo de Cooperacion entre El Pastillo Conservation Trust y el Instituto Fillius de la Universidad de Puerto Rico) goal was to research the impact of providing therapy in a rural setting. The focus was to work with the soil and to expose the participants to basic horticultural and agricultural practices. The research program was conducted over a three-month period and had very positive, transformative results for the subjects.
El Nuevo Día, Puerto Rico’s preeminent media company (www.endi.com), is presenting sponsor of the El Pastillo Golf Classic. El Nuevo Dia is distributed daily throughout Puerto Rico and other parts of the United States.
The Golf Classic is played as a four-person team with a limited field of 48 players. There will be other events held on property throughout the weekend, including receptions, dinners, and an awards ceremony for participants and guests.
There also are other sponsorship opportunities whereby participating sponsors will receive media exposure in addition to being featured on tournament signage and in all collateral material. Sponsors will also be invited to play in the event.
This is a unique opportunity to play one of the world’s most highly acclaimed golf courses while helping to preserve a vital part of Puerto Rico’s natural habitat.
