Alberta Canadian Rockies Golf Destination Partners Welcome Government’s Approval To Resume Restoration Of Kananaskis Country’s 36 Holes

Champions reign from Alabama, California, Indiana, Minnesota, New York and Texas

(Western Alberta, CANADA) – Canadian Rockies Golf (www.canadianrockiesgolf.net) – the world-famous collection of courses regaled for “Golf that Inspires” – celebrates news that Kananaskis Country Golf Course (KCGC) will resume restoration efforts following approval by the provincial government.

After being closed by 2013 flooding, KCGC was in the process of rebuilding until March, 2015, when Alberta political leadership at the time ordered an independent study to determine if restoring KCGC was in taxpayers’ best interest and the management contract for the provincially owned public golf facility had been fairly won.

Now that KCGC has passed through this stoppage, construction to restore the two 18-hole courses – Mt. Lorette and Mt. Kidd, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. – can move forward.

“Kananaskis Country Golf Course is a national treasure that drew people from throughout the province and worldwide,” says K. Gordon Schultz, owner of Golf Canadas West, a travel package sales company specializing in the region. “This is good for Kananaskis Country, good for Canadian Rockies Golf destination and good for golfers near and far – the courses and park are one of Canada’s most beautiful places to partake of the outdoor recreation and the natural beauty pervasive here.”

A past study showed that Kananaskis Country Golf Course produced a province wide net economic impact of more than $14 million yearly and sustained 175 full-time equivalent jobs. Of the 60,000 rounds of golf played at the course in the year studied, 85 percent of golfers were local Albertans – who receive a reduced rate.

“Kananaskis will be back and better than ever, supporting local business, providing jobs and working hard to revitalize the region,” says KCGC General Manager Darren Robinson, who has been at the facility for 18 years.

The delivery date of the courses is undetermined currently, and restoration work is expected to begin imminently.
