American FootGolf League’s Inaugural National Championship Is A Success

October 12, 2015

Palm Springs, CA – Nearly 100 U.S. footgolfers, plus representatives from Argentina and Mexico, gathered on the wind-swept shores of Lake Michigan to compete in the first U.S. FootGolf National Championship on Oct. 3.

“This is a dream come true for the AFGL, and all the footgolfers across the U.S. who have discovered and joined the sport of FootGolf,” said AFGL founder Roberto Balestrini. “We’ve established a national championship as something all players can aspire to. Our first champion, Jordan Godfrey, is only 22 years old – the same age as Jordan Spieth. And our Jordan put in a Spieth-like performance, winning by seven shots.”

“I want to commend all of the competitors for braving the tough elements, and making the first U.S. championship a truly memorable event,” said the 22-year old Godfrey. “Our country’s best came to compete for the honor of being the first U.S. national champion, and I have to say, the quality of play impressed me and motivates me to get better. I am extremely proud to hold the first national championship trophy, and see this event as a launching point for what this sport will become. I am honored to be recognized by the Federation for International FootGolf (FIFG), and look forward to competing in the FootGolf World Cup in Argentina, next year.”

“I came to check out the AFGL competition,” said Christian Otero of Argentina. “Boy, are they good! I am really impressed by the progress U.S. players have made in the world of FootGolf, and I now expect the FootGolf World Cup in January to be a highly competitive event. My home field advantage won’t be enough to beat these guys.”
