Nippon Shaft prevails at Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia
CARLSBAD, Calif. (October 12, 2015) – Playing with graphite shafts in her irons, she had missed the cut in eight of her last 12 LPGA starts and hadn’t recorded a top 10 in eight months.
Then, a few weeks back, the 22-yer-old from Bradenton, Florida installed Nippon Shaft N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 105 S flex steel shafts in her irons, and yesterday posted a 4-shot victory at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia over many of the world’s top female players.
The popular winner shot a total of 18-under par on rounds of 69-67-65-65-266. The dual 65s on the weekend were her two best rounds of the season. She earned $300,000 for the victory – and a champagne shower from her LPGA peers.
“She returned to steel,” said Hiro Fukuda, sales and marketing for Nippon Shaft. “She changed out the graphite shafts she had been playing for our 105-gram steel shafts. As a result, she was able to get the stability and predictability of steel along with a very light weight shaft. Nippon Shaft is very happy for her victory and sends its congratulations.”
Always very popular among LPGA players, Nippon Shaft also had 70 players on the U.S. and European PGA Tours utilizing various models of Nippon Shaft’s steel shafts in their irons and wedges during the 2013-14 season, an increase of 69.5% over the previous year. Fifty-six U.S. PGA TOUR players and 14 European Tour members chose from among five types of Nippon Shaft steel shafts to outfit their irons. Iron shaft models used were the N.S. PRO 950GH, the N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 130, N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 120, N.S. PRO MODUS3 PROTO ST prototype shaft, and N.S. PRO MODUS3 ORA prototype steel shafts.
In recent years, Nippon Shaft has been making deep inroads on the PGA TOUR with shafts designed for tour pros and low-handicap amateurs.
