The Glen Club to host 2015 Speedgolf World Championship, Oct. 19-20
GLENVIEW, Illinois, October 12, 2015- Speedgolf International, the governing body of Speedgolf, will host the 2015 Speedgolf World Championship at The Glen Club in Glenview, Illinois, October 19-20. Speedgolf is a creative alternative to traditional golf, a hybrid of running and golf, with modified rules, and a full body workout. The 2015 Speedgolf World Championship marks the fourth annual World Championship, the first three were held at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Oregon.
Speedgolf scores are determined by adding the total number of minutes and seconds it takes to complete a round of golf with the total number of strokes. Players compete at a rapid pace, completing 18-holes of golf in less than an hour, with a limited number of golf clubs and a slim, lightweight bag. Some players prefer to forgo a bag completely.
“Over the last four years, we have witnessed great growth in the sport of Speedgolf” said Tim Scott, executive director of Speedgolf International. “We look forward to bringing our premier event to Chicago later this month to build awareness for the sport and increase participation in Chicago, a golf-crazed city.”
The 2015 Speedgolf World Championship will feature four separate events: an 18-Hole competition for men in which participants are grouped by age, an 18-Hole competition for women, a 36-Hole Elite Amateur event and a 36-Hole Professional event. The 18-Hole competitions will compete on Monday, October 19, from 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m. CDT. The 36-Hole Elite Amateur field and Professional field will take place over two days, Monday, October 19 – Tuesday, October 20, from 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. CDT. The professionals in the elite division will compete for a purse of $40,000.
This year’s professional field will feature 2014 Speedgolf World Champion Eri Crum, who shot a 76 in 46 minutes for a Speedgolf score of 122, Three-Time Olympian Nick Willis, 2013 Speedgolf World Champion Rob Hogan, Four-Time Olympian Bernard Lagat, 2012 Speedgolf World Champion Chris Walker and newly-minted world record holder Mitch Williamson from Australia who shot a 77 in 31 minutes for a Speedgolf score of 108.
