Elite tour players are using the device to achieve new heights
GLENVIEW, Illinois (October 20, 2015) – The late Yogi Berra once said, “Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical.” This sentiment applies to golf and to other sports.
Nationally prominent Chicago-area teaching pro and Mental Game expert Joe Bosco will introduce the FocusBand™ – a revolutionary new technology used by some of the world’s top golfers – at the first-ever FocusBand™ Mental Game Performance Workshops on Nov. 1 and 2 at The Glen Club.
Participants will learn how the FocusBand™ can help golfers calm their minds and get in “the Zone” prior to hitting a tee shot, iron or putter, resulting in better shots, lower scores and greater enjoyment.
Bosco’s two special guests will be FocusBand™ co-inventor Henry Boulton and mental performance coach Jason Goldsmith. Goldsmith has used the FocusBand™ in his work with elite tour pros, including a 2015 major championship winner who achieved the World No. 1 ranking.
Bosco also been a key beta-tester of the FocusBand™ over the last five years of its development. He has employed it in his mental training of golfers of all levels from beginners to high-level amateurs to aspiring Tour pros.
“The FocusBand™ is the first wearable active neurofeedback device now being used by a number of the world’s elite golfers to help them get in ‘The Zone’ before they make a swing,” said Bosco, who recently was named by Golf Digest as one of the Chicago area’s top teaching pros. “It is a revolutionary technology that promises to help golfers of all ages and skill levels improve their performance and enjoy the game more.
“Moreover, I believe the FocusBand™ can enhance a person’s mental approach to any sports, professional or academic endeavor,” Bosco said.
Athletes competing in the following high-level leagues also have used the FocusBand™: Major
League Baseball, NFL, NBA, NCAA Tennis, NASCAR, Rugby Union, Cricket, Volleyball and Shooting.
FocusBand™ works by electronically monitoring brain waves and displaying them on an iPhone screen. When the color red is displayed, it means the subject’s brain is not in the “zone” or, as the Japanese say, “mushin” state. When the golfer’s mind becomes calm, the color green is displayed on the screen and the golfer proceeds to swing – usually with improved results.
“Over the last 25 years as a teaching professional, I’ve learned that the most underrated part of golf is the mental side of it,” Bosco said. “People learn proper techniques of how to swing their drivers, irons and putters, but they can become paralyzed by the complexity of each technique. Getting into ‘The Zone’ using the FocusBand™ can help eliminate the tendency to become too technical and let golfers play naturally – and better.”
