Howey in the Hills, Fla. – (October 26, 2015) The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) announced Monday, October 26, the 2015 Rolex Junior All-America Teams. Bishops Gate Golf Academy junior Maria Hoyos and senior Ana Paula Valdes have been named to the Rolex Junior All-America 2nd Team. Maria has recently climbed up the Polo Junior Golf Rankings to claim one of the top spots, earning the honor of being named an All-American for the first time. Currently ranked 14th in the Polo Golf Rankings, Ana Paula, a Clemson University commit, has also earned the honor of being named a Rolex Junior All-American for the first time. Maria and Ana Paula were recently paired together at the 2015 Wyndham Cup, where they represented the East at the AJGA’s annual Ryder Cup-style match play tournament.
According to the AJGA, the Rolex Junior All-America Teams were introduced in 1978 and “annually recognize players who have proven to be the world’s premier junior golfers. This year’s teams are comprised of 96 junior golfers, ages 13-19. These young men and women distinguished themselves through their outstanding play in 127 national events, 112 of which were conducted by the AJGA. The Rolex Junior All-America Teams were determined exclusively through the Polo Golf Rankings as of Oct. 13.
There’s a long history of success by Rolex Junior All-Americans at the college and professional levels. Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Hunter Mahan, Rickie Fowler, Paula Creamer, Morgan Pressel, Inbee Park and Lexi Thompson are among the many Rolex Junior All-Americans in the NCAA and professional record books.
More recently, the 2010 Rolex Junior All-America First Team has several players who are among the top players in the game. Five of these players have won NCAA titles, as Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Stephanie Meadow and Shannon Aubert were on title-winning teams, while Doris Chen won an individual championship. Patrick Rodgers, Ollie Schniederjans, Emiliano Grillo, Alison Lee, Ariya Jutanugarn and Jessica Korda were also first-team Rolex Junior All-Americans five years ago.”
Maria said, “It is an honor to be given this honor. I want to thank everyone at BGGA for their hard work to help me get better every day and achieve one of my junior golf dreams.”
Ana Paula said, “I have been playing AJGA events for 3 years, and I am excited to earn this honor in my final year. Thank you to everyone at BGGA for helping me become not only a better golfer but also a better person.”
