Restoration to incorporate better Billy Bunker Method, ‘Bunker White’ sand
(BOERNE, Texas) – Cordillera Ranch – the premier luxury community in the scenic Texas Hill Country – announces its Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course is undergoing a complete bunker renovation project designed to further define and enhance its nationally-ranked layout.
The project, nearly a $1 million investment to the golf course, will feature the Better Billy Bunker Method and imported “Bunker White” sand from California. The renovated started in November, and completion is slated for March 2016. The golf course will remain open for play throughout the renovation with disruption minimized for members, guests and events.
“The bunker renovation is a major investment back into the course that will help maintain our world-class facilities,” says Charlie Hill, Vice President of Development at Cordillera Ranch. “The work will greatly enhance the golf experience at Cordillera Ranch, both aesthetically and from a playability standpoint.”
Highlights of the Better Billy Bunker Method include:
• Removal of the existing sand and liners in each bunker to subgrade
• Installation of a two-inch gravel layer placed over the subgrade
• Spraying the layer with a polymer to bind the gravel together
• Creation of an extremely durable liner that swiftly drains and minimizes wash-outs during heavy rains
The “Bunker White” sand originates from California and offers excellent playability characteristics. Its angular composition helps minimize bad lies, improves drainage and has a striking bright-white color. The sand will be shipped to Texas via rail car, off-loaded into trucks and transported to Cordillera Ranch.
Set on pristine land in the Texas Hill Country, the Cordillera Ranch layout meanders through valleys and oak-covered terrain. Many holes offer views of the Guadalupe River Valley and feature strategic bunkering, craggy limestone canyons and thought-provoking risk-reward shots.
Earlier this year, the golf course received two prestigious honors from respected publications. The Dallas Morning News tabbed the Nicklaus Signature layout a top-5 golf course in Texas, the eighth consecutive year it achieved this status. Also, the San Antonio Business Journal named Cordillera Ranch the top golf course in the Alamo City. In 2014, the National Golf Course Owners Association bestowed its “Course of the Year” honor on Cordillera Ranch.
The Golf Club is one seven resort-style clubs at Cordillera Ranch, along with The Social Club, The Tennis and Swim Club, The Equestrian Club, The Rod and Gun Club, The Spa and Athletic Club and The River Club. Perched high atop one of the many breathtaking hills found in the community, the 40,000 square-foot clubhouse is the social heart of the property, and features member dining facilities, a full fitness center, in-house spa, locker rooms, special event rooms, member lounge, four outdoor pools and golf shop.
Considered one of the most desirable Hill Country addresses, Cordillera Ranch has nearly doubled its home sales in the past two years. New home construction continues at a torrid pace with 40-50 homes remaining under construction at any one time over the last three years – all but three of which are sold.
The community recently unveiled its Springs of Cordillera Ranch neighborhood, which offers single-family residences that combine modern amenities with a traditional Texas Hill Country setting.
