VACAVILLE, Calif. – The Northern California PGA today announced its 2015 Annual Section Award winners. Demetria “Dede” Moriarty, PGA Head Professional at Presidio Golf Course and Lake Merced Golf Club is honored with the 2015 NCPGA Golf Professional of the Year Award. This award is given for the finest exhibition of spirit, determination, business acumen, professionalism, promotion of the game of golf as well as service to the Section and the Association.

Moriarty is a pioneer for women in the golf industry. At the time when she became a PGA Apprentice, there weren’t many women in the golf industry. She turned Professional in 1987 and was honored as the first female PGA Assistant Golf Professional in Lake Merced Golf Club’s history. She later became the first female PGA Head Professional in San Francisco history, at the Presidio Golf Course. This milestone served as an inspiration for young women, minorities and other aspiring golf professionals.

Moriarty’s service to the NCPGA Section is remarkable. She is in her 8th year serving on the Board of Directors, being a voice for the membership and helping guide our Section’s future. She is also currently Vice President for the NCPGA Foundation Board of Directors. She co-chairs the NCPGA Teaching Task Force, the Education Committee, and Women’s Division

Serving on the NCPGA Education Committee, she hopes to inspire PGA Professionals to educate themselves in an effort to make themselves better for their students and for the game. Moriarty believes it is important for PGA Professionals and Apprentices to be leaders in the industry and education is the key.

Within the community, Moriarty serves as Vice President of the San Francisco Mayor’s Women’s Golf Council with the goal of making San Francisco “The most women-friendly golf city in America.”

Moriarty has received numerous honors including the 2011 NCPGA Horton Smith Award and the 1996 Palmer Head Professional of the Year award from the Arnold Palmer Golf Company.

She hopes that by leading by example, she can show Section PGA Professionals and Apprentices the impact they can make by volunteering. Her passion for women’s golf, education, and community philanthropy helps drive her efforts. She encourages others to find their passion and give back, whether it is at their facilities with their students or at the Section or National level.
