Nor Cal PGA Honors Jason Schmuhl, Shawn McEntee, Glen Stubblefield, and Brian Thompson with the Player of the Year Awards

VACAVILLE, Calif. – The Northern California PGA today announced the three winners of its Player of the Year awards. Jason Schmuhl, Head Golf Professional at Windsor Golf Club in Windsor, Calif., earns top honors as Player of the Year (Regular Division) proudly presented by OMEGA and Yamaha Golf-Car Company. PGA Teaching Professional Shawn McEntee of Chardonnay Golf Club in Napa, Calif., garnered the Senior Player of the Year (50-64 years) honors for the third consecutive year and PGA Life Member Glen Stubblefield of Valley Springs, Calif., earned the Super Senior (65+ years) Player of the Year award. These awards are both presented by OMEGA and UCI Construction. PGA Apprentice Brian Thompson of The Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif., wins the Assistant Apprentice Player of the Year award presented by OMEGA and Global Tour Golf. All Players of the Year were awarded this distinction based upon their 2015 tournament year point standings.

The NCPGA will recognize all 19 of its 2015 Annual Section Award winners on Sunday, Dec. 6 at the NCPGA Special Awards Ceremony & President’s Dinner at Round Hill Country Club in Alamo, Calif. This event, a highlight for the year, will be held the evening prior to the NCPGA Annual Meeting. There are more than 200 golf professionals and industry leaders expected to attend. Capital Insurance Group (CIG), Cleveland Golf, and E-Z-Go Textron are presenting partners and 2UNDR, Hole-in-One USA, and Northern California Golf Representatives Association (NCGRA) are contributing partners of the Awards Ceremony & Annual Meeting.

“Our PGA Professionals continue to impress us through their contribution to the industry and their talent on the golf course. By keeping their game sharp, they are in an ideal position to help the golfing community improve their game by offering lessons at their home facilities,” said NCPGA Executive Director and COO Chris Thomas.

Jason Schmuhl – Player of the Year

Jason Schmuhl, Head Golf Professional at Windsor Golf Club, earns honors as the Player of the Year for his exceptional tournament performance this year.

Highlighted by a win at the NCPGA Match Play Championship, Schmuhl’s strong performance across six events led to being the top point leader in the Section with 878 points.

In addition to twenty years of teaching experience, he has played competitive golf since the age of eight. His golf resume is impressive with berths in numerous PGA TOUR events, including the 2010 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, the Fry’s.com Open, the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, the Reno-Tahoe Open, and the Barracuda Championship. What’s more, Schmuhl has also earned entry into eight consecutive PGA Professional National Championships.

With this award, Schmuhl is now a three-time NCPGA Player of the Year award recipient, having won previously in 2010 and 2008.

Shawn McEntee – Senior Player of the Year

Chardonnay’s PGA Teaching Professional Shawn McEntee is the Senior Player of the Year. McEntee competed in 12 senior events this year, tying for first place at the Senior Pro-Pro 1, 2, and 3. He earned a total of 197.50 points this season.

McEntee’s impressive career spans more than 30 years in competitive golf play and 25 years in golf instruction. His professional accomplishments are numerous and include the 1999 NCPGA Player of the Year, 1995 NCPGA Merchandiser of the Year, and 1988 SCPGA Player of the Year.

McEntee played in more than 30 PGA tour events, including the 1989 and 1991 PGA Championship, and the 1992 US Open at Pebble Beach. He is also a seven-time participant in the AT&T Pro Am.

Glen Stubblefield – Super Senior Player of the Year

PGA Lifetime Member Glen Stubblefield is named the Super Senior Player of the Year.

Stubblefield was the points leader after competing in 11 events, winning titles in four events including the Super Senior Pro-Pro 1, the Super Senior Match Play Championship, Super Senior Pro-Pro 7, and the Super Senior Stroke Play Championship. He earned a total of 174.75 points this year to gain the title.

A PGA Professional since 1976, Stubblefield has had a long career in the golf industry and continues to make an impact.

Brian Thompson – Assistant Apprentice Player of the Year

PGA Apprentice Brian Thompson of The Olympic Club is the Assistant Apprentice Division Player of the Year.

An active competitor, Thompson competed in 11 events throughout the season and tied for first place in the Assistant Apprentice Match Play Championship, the Assistant Apprentice Medal Play #5, and the Assistant Apprentice Two-Person Team Championship. In all, Thompson earned an impressive 960.66 points this year.

He is a golf performance coach with a holistic approach to game improvement. According to Thompson, his entire golfing career has been centered around learning from the best, training to be the best, and coaching others to be at their best. After competing as part of the California State University Monterey Bay team, he spent a couple of years traveling the country playing on mini tours including the Gateway, Hooters, and Web.com.
