U.S. Kids Golf – Holiday Classic
PGA National Golf Club – Palm Beach Gardens
Monday, December 21st – Tuesday, December 22nd
Since 2012, U.S. Kids Golf families have reserved December 21-22 on their calendars for the Holiday Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. This year marks the 4th annual event at PGA National Golf Club. The Holiday Classic, by some measures, is the most popular event on the Regional Championship schedule. The tournament field fills up in less than a couple of days, and the waiting list is nearly as large as the field.
Over 275 of the world’s best golfers (ages 5-14) will embark on a two-day journey in hopes of being crowned the 2015 Holiday Classic Champion for their age group. The top three players from each age group will receive automatic invitations to the 2016 World (or Teen World) Championship in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
Of the 279 registered golfers, approximately 50 have less than an hour drive and 50 are traveling from outside of the United States. Austria, Australia, Canada, Colombia, Czech Republic, Germany, Dominican Republic, Spain, Finland, France, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Portugal, Sweden, Thailand and the U.S. make up the twenty countries represented in the tournament field.
Five participants from Palm Beach Gardens will look to capitalize on their home field advantage – Cameron Callaway Meek (Boys 13-14), Madison Moman (Girls 8), Nashawn Tyson (Boys 10), Andrew Tsar (Boys 7) and his older brother Pavel Tsar (Boys 8).
The Palmer course will serve as the competitor to Boys 11, Boys 12, and Boys 13-14 and Girls 11 age groups. All other age groups will match up against The Fazio course.
Eleven of the fifteen champions from 2014 will return to Palm Beach Gardens this year to defend their title. In 2014, 6-year-old Phillip Dunham caught the eye of everyone at PGA National when he posted a 13-under two-day score – the low round of the tournament for any age group. Alexa Pano, a U.S. Kids Golf veteran, carded 8-under for the event; first place amongst girls.
Regional Championship fields are mostly comprised of youth golfers who have earned “Priority Status” from shooting exceptional scores on Local Tours and other events.
Unlike other junior golf tournaments, parents are strongly encouraged to take part in the U.S. Kids Golf experience by caddying, and/or spectating with the rest of the family. U.S. Kids Golf is not just about golf. Most players and their families connect with other participants at the event and build relationships and memories that last a lifetime.
“The mission of U.S. Kids Golf is to help kids have fun learning the lifelong game of golf and to encourage family interaction that builds lasting memories.”
