Orlando, Fla.- Rob Strano, owner and director of instruction for the Strano Golf Academy at Kelly Plantation Golf Club in Destin, Fla., has been selected to join the Golf Channel Academy.

Strano is among the game’s most influential and recognizable teachers coming together to establish a dedicated network of instruction facilities with the active support of Golf Channel, the game’s leading global multimedia and golf entertainment source.

“I’m very excited to be among the coaches associated with the Golf Channel Academy,” said Strano, a former Touring Professional. “This is a chance for golf coaches to work together, learning from one another, and adopting best practices in coaching that allows us to better serve golfers – helping them to learn to play better and enjoy playing more golf.”

Launched in April, Golf Channel Academy is the first network of its kind devoted to efficiently growing the business of golf instruction. With 68 locations already committed, Golf Channel Academy will be inviting additional coaches to become part of the network as it continues to grow.

Prior to starting his own academy, Strano competed professionally for 15 years on various tours that included the PGA Tour, Web.com Tour and NGA/Hooters Tour. His teaching career includes being one of the lead instructors for the golf schools at Pine Needles Resort in Pinehurst, N.C., and opened the Strano Golf Academy in 2003.

That year, Strano developed a nationwide golf instruction outreach program for Deaf children, teaching them how to play golf in sign language. As the director of the United States Deaf Golf Camps, Strano travels the country conducting instruction clinics for the Deaf at various PGA Tour and LPGA Tour events.

A native of the St. Louis area, Strano grew up at St. Clair Country Club, home to four other Touring Professionals that learned the game there (1968 Masters Champion Bob Goalby, Jay Haas, Jerry Haas, and Frank Conner). Strano has enjoyed great success with a variety of junior golfers, helping more than 40 of his students go on to compete on the collegiate level at such established programs as Florida State, Southern Mississippi, Florida, and Troy University. He is also a three-time honorable mention U.S. Kids Golf Top 50 Youth Golf Instructor.

Strano’s work with tour players has produced several leaders in statistical categories, including driving accuracy, total driving and 3-putt avoidance. Strano’s students also include a Super Bowl champion and Heisman Trophy winning quarterback, as well as a two-time NCAA men’s basketball national championship coach.

Strano is a Level 2 certified AimPoint Express green reading instructor, a member of the FlightScope Advisory Board, the developer of the Fuzion Dyn-A-line putting training aid, and a featured instruction writer for GolfWRX.
