LA QUINTA, Calif. – The 2016 CareerBuilder Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation has compiled a fun, comprehensive and educational program of fan events which builds on the ever-evolving fan experience that supplements the PGA TOUR tournament action inside the ropes.
The CareerBuilder Challenge is billing Thursday’s opening round of the tournament on Jan. 21 as Seniors Day. Friday’s second round on Jan. 22 will carry the theme of Women’s Day presented by El Paseo Jewelers. A display of American spirit and wearing the USA’s red, white and blue colors will be the order of the day Jan. 23 as Saturday’s third round takes on the title of Patriot Day – the tournament’s traditional day to honor the United States military. For the second consecutive year, Sunday’s final round on Jan. 24 marks Kids Day presented by Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital.
The tournament, now in its 57th year, returns to La Quinta Jan. 18-24, and is a 72-hole PGA TOUR event featuring 156 professionals at the TPC Stadium Course at PGA WEST (host course), the Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA WEST and La Quinta Country Club.
“Our theme days at the CareerBuilder Challenge provide a variety of activities that cater to the golf fan as well as the patron who comes out for general leisure, social interaction and a unique experience. We are eager to show there is more to the tournament than golf,” CareerBuilder Challenge tournament director Bill Tait said. “We have some great partners that help us to produce an array of well-rounded activities that enhance the overall fan experience and we are really proud that this tournament truly offers something for everyone.”
Each theme day will showcase fun activities and presentations, food trucks, discounts in the CareerBuilder Challenge merchandise tent, tournament giveaways, photo booth opportunities, and a chance to view the iconic Bob Hope golf cart for each day’s designated classification of honorees all within Bob Hope Square at the TPC Stadium Course – the CareerBuilder Challenge’s social hub.
The CareerBuilder Challenge’s Seniors Day (Jan. 21) will include activities for seniors such as wine tastings at the Rodney Strong Vineyards Wine Bar, a PGA WEST Golf Academy golf clinic on the TPC Stadium Course driving range at 11 a.m., and presentations pertaining to career advice and healthy living.
Seniors 62 and over with valid ID are eligible to secure a Seniors Day Ticket – good for grounds admission on Jan. 21 – for $20 (a $15 discount from the regular Seniors Grounds Ticket price of $35) online only at www.CareerBuilderChallenge.com/tickets, as well as a 10-percent discount on select items at the CareerBuilder Challenge merchandise tent.
Women’s Day presented by El Paseo Jewelers (Jan. 22) will cater to female-themed entertainment and activities like wine tastings at the Rodney Strong Vineyards Wine Bar, a PGA WEST Golf Academy golf clinic on the TPC Stadium Course driving range at 11 a.m., a chance to visit the CHASE54 showroom and meet fashion designer Lulu Faddis from 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m., and career advice counseling from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Women will also receive a 10-percent discount off select women’s apparel at the CareerBuilder Challenge merchandise tent.
The CareerBuilder Challenge encourages everyone to dress in red, white and blue and embrace the spirit of Patriot Day Presented by Chandi Group USA and the Riverside County Economic Development Agency on Jan. 23, in honor and support of the U.S. Armed Forces. Patriot Day activities celebrate the military, and attending fans on Patriot Day will receive an American flag pin (while supplies last).
Active Duty, Military Reserve, National Guard and Military Retirees can visit www.CareerBuilderchallenge.com/tickets to reserve complimentary military daily tickets for themselves and one accompanied guest (military members must show valid military ID at the tournament gate). Military veterans are entitled to purchase a discounted veterans daily ticket for $25 (a $15 discount from the regular daily ticket price).
Military personnel are eligible for a 10-percent discount off select items at the CareerBuilder Challenge merchandise tent on Patriot Day and have access to the CareerBuilder Patriots Outpost, located along the TPC Stadium Course’s 18th fairway and hosting active duty and reserve military members and their families from Jan. 21-24 with patio seating and complimentary food and beverage.
Patriot Day programming includes a PGA WEST Golf Academy golf clinic for military members at 11 a.m. on the TPC Stadium Course driving range, wine tastings at the Rodney Strong Vineyards Wine Bar, career advice counseling for Veterans from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., a home giveaway presentation from the Military Warriors Support Foundation at 1:30 p.m., and the annual military appreciation ceremony immediately following play on the 18th green of the TPC Stadium Course at PGA WEST.
Last year’s post-round, 18th-green military ceremony included President William J. Clinton in its celebration.
For the second consecutive year, the CareerBuilder Challenge proclaims its ‘Championship Sunday’ – Jan. 24 – as Kids Day Presented by Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital (LLUCH). Children 15 and under are admitted free to the CareerBuilder Challenge on Kids’ Day and throughout tournament week when accompanied by a paid adult (limit two children for each paid adult). The Certified Farmers’ Markets of the Coachella Valley will also set up shop in Bob Hope Square from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Kids Day brings family fun and entertainment with interactive, kid-friendly activities like coloring in the LLUCH Coloring Zone from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., face painting and balloon twisting, courtesy of Desert Dream Parties, from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and attending presentations from The Living Desert’s Zoo Wildlife on Wheels program at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Kids 15 and under will also receive a 10-percent discount on select merchandise in the CareerBuilder Challenge’s merchandise tent.
Kids 6 and older can also be active in the Jan. 24 TGA Premier Junior Golf Clinic presented by Air Force One Golf on PGA WEST’s TPC Stadium Course driving range from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Golf clubs will be provided for all participants, and the CareerBuilder Challenge will award prizes, goodie bags and free admission to participants.
Because space is limited, kids must apply and register in advance for the clinic at www.coachellavalley.playtga.com and submit their completed application via e-mail to RKvinge@playtga.com, or return a completed application to Lumpy’s golf store in La Quinta (46630 Washington Street) or Rancho Mirage (72769 Dinah Shore Drive) by the Jan. 18 deadline.

Multiple CareerBuilder Challenge ticket options can be secured at www.careerbuilderchallenge.com. Some of the more popular option are daily grounds tickets (for tournament rounds Thursday-Sunday) for $40, a full week badge (Wednesday-Sunday) for $100, a senior daily ticket (valid for tournament rounds for ages 62 & over) for $35, and a veterans daily ticket for $25. Children 15 and under are admitted free with a ticketed adult (limit two children per ticketed adult).

Weekend memberships (Saturday and Sunday only) are $240 and full week memberships (valid for all tournament rounds) are $300. Overlooking the TPC Stadium Course’s famous par-3 17th hole – nicknamed “Alcatraz” for its island green – Club 17 features a sports bar atmosphere inside and views of some of the most exciting golf in the tournament outside.
