New golf shop is centerpiece of recently expanded and updated clubhouse
(PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla.) – PGA Golf Club has been selected as a recipient of the 2016 Association of Golf Merchandisers (AGM) Platinum Award.
To be considered for the award, courses were invited to submit golf shop nominations. Entries were then judged by an impartial panel on a number of categories, including creative ideas, revenue-generating initiatives, promotions and visual displays. Owned and operated by the PGA of America, PGA Golf Club’s golf shop was a major focal point of the recent expansion and renovation of its 20,000-square-foot clubhouse.
The AGM is an international, professional association of golf-related merchandisers and vendors. Members include golf professionals, buyers, merchandisers, students, club managers, owners and suppliers to the golf industry. Headquartered in Arizona, the AGM is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation founded in 1989 and governed by a 19-member volunteer Board of Directors.
“As a first-time recipient, we’re ecstatic about this recognition from the AGM,” says Jimmy Terry, General Manager of PGA Golf Club. “It’s a testament to the foresight and hard work of our entire team, all of whom were integral to the amazing transformation of the clubhouse and golf shop.”
The updated golf shop uses innovative props (display enhancers) and lighting to ensure merchandise is visually appealing. It carries more than 15 different apparel lines for ladies covering accessories, gift items and resort wear. Likewise, men’s apparel is regularly updated with new vendors and lines to ensure styles are cutting edge. Items for juniors are also emphasized with sizing from infants through teens.
Other clubhouse enhancements at PGA Golf Club include opening of the American-British fusion Taplow Pub featuring a cozy, welcoming interior with cutting-edge audio / video components; and NINETEEN-SIXTEEN Bar & Grille, a members-only restaurant adjacent to the 18th Hole of the Wanamaker Course.
Additionally, the PGA has relocated notable trophies and artifacts tracing its nearly 100 years to the new “PGA Gallery” area of the clubhouse. A showcase of the major championship trophies of golf includes the PGA Championship’s original Wanamaker Trophy. The Senior PGA Championship’s Alfred S. Bourne Trophy and the Vardon Trophy, with its iconic overlapped hands sculpture, are also prominently displayed.
Recent on-the-course news at PGA Golf Club includes a significant re-grassing project on its Wanamaker Course. The playing experience has been further improved with the introduction of new turf to fairways and bunker surrounds. Several ornamental species were also planted to reframe holes.
Stay-and-play packages encompassing all four of the club’s courses (Wanamaker, Dye, Ryder and St. Lucie Trail) are available. To book, please call 866.580.0885. For more information about PGA Golf Club, visit www.pgavillage.com.
