ORLANDO, Fla. (Feb. 9, 2016) – Golfweek showcases the talent of young golfers rising through the ranks with the release of its annual Junior Issue, which examines what the future stars of tomorrow are facing today. Highlighting golf’s up-and-coming players, this year’s cover story focuses on junior athletes who excel in more than just golf and the effect multi-sport concentration has on their future place in the game.
“With an increasing number of young golfers participating in more than one sport, we wanted to find out when juniors should specialize and turn all of their energies to golf,” said Golfweek Editor Steve Harmon. “But the answer to that question is as varied as the players themselves. This issue includes a special report from Beth Ann Nichols, exploring the pressure that top junior golfers face to shun other sports and focus solely on golf.”
In addition to the main feature on multi-sport athletes, this issue spans various aspects of the junior game, from fitness to form, including:
• A Q&A with Jordan Spieth’s mother, Christine Spieth, about raising a rising golf star
• Insights from renowned fitness instructor Randy Myers, discussing the timing and process juniors should consider when it comes to physical training for the sport
• A “For Your Game” feature showcasing Sierra Brooks, a Wake Forest signee from Lake Mary, Florida, who holds the No. 5 position in the Golfweek Junior Rankings
• A list of the current top 10 in the boys’ and girls’ official Golfweek Junior Rankings
