Youth On Course Partners With Pebble Beach’s Links At Spanish Bay

(PEBBLE BEACH, CA) – Youth on Course – the non-profit organization providing youth with subsidized rounds, scholarships, paid internships and other access benefits – has extended an agreement with Pebble Beach Resorts to allow YOC members to play The Links at Spanish Bay for five dollars per round.

Spanish Bay, a Golf Digest “Top-50 Public Course in America”, joins Del Monte Golf Course as 18-hole Pebble Beach Resort golf amenities offering YOC rates to members who book their tee times 24 hours in advance.

“A generation ago, kids like me were granted affordable access to golf and it became a life-changing experience,” says RJ Harper, Pebble Beach Executive Vice President of Golf. “Youth on Course allows us to offer that availability and hopefully pass along the same life lessons through the game.”

Born out of the Northern California Golf Association, Youth on Course subsidizes greens fees in order to eliminate the financial barrier that might prohibit young golfers from enjoying the game. None of the organization’s nearly 15,000 members ever pays more than $5 for a round at hundreds of partner courses across nine states. College scholarships are awarded to deserving members, and paid intern and caddie programs are available at select locations.

“We’re located in a golf hotbed, but there are few affordable resort courses for juniors to play,” says Spanish Bay Head Professional Rich Cosand, PGA. “Not only are we introducing kids to a world-class destination, but we roll out the red carpet and treat them like any other guest when they arrive.”

“The fact that a young golfer could come down to the Monterey Peninsula and play Spanish Bay, Poppy Hills and Quail Lodge for $5 apiece just shows the viability of this model,” says Youth on Course Executive Director Adam Heieck. “We’re granting kids an opportunity to experience golf at its finest, and that keeps them invested in the sport for life.”
