Philanthropic arm of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America announces appointment to

fill Board of Trustees for 2016

Lawrence, Kan. (Feb. 23, 2016) – Darren J. Davis, the certified golf course superintendent (CGCS) at Olde Florida Golf Club in Naples, Fla., has been appointed to the board of trustees for the Environmental Institute For Golf (EIFG), the philanthropic organization of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA). Davis is also serving as secretary/treasurer for EIFG and the board of directors for GCSAA.

A 26-year GCSAA member, Davis is a past president of the Everglades GCSA, the Florida GCSA and Florida Turfgrass Association. He is currently a director with the Musser International Turfgrass Foundation. In 2004, the Florida GCSA honored him with its Distinguished Service Award, and in 2011 the chapter presented Davis with the Wreath of Grass – the association’s highest honor.

A native of Tallahassee, Fla., Davis earned a turfgrass management certificate from Penn State University in 1991. He also obtained an associate in arts degree from Tallahassee Community College in 1987, and in 2007, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from Florida Gulf Coast University.

“We are pleased to welcome Darren as a trustee for the EIFG, and we look forward to his input as we continue to make a positive difference for the future of the game,” said Peter J. Grass, CGCS, GCSAA and EIFG president.

The EIFG fosters sustainability by providing funding for research grants, education programs, awareness of golf’s environmental efforts and scholarships. It was founded in 1955 as the Scholarship & Research Fund for the GCSAA.

The EIFG also recently recognized retiring trustee John J. O’Keefe, CGCS, the immediate past president of GCSAA, for his years of service to the organization.

The board of trustees is composed of four GCSAA directors and one representative each from the USGA, PGA Tour and PGA of America. The trustees are responsible for advancement, policies and general review of the mission and goals of the organization.

The current board also includes William H. Maynard, CGCS (GCSAA vice president); Rafael Barajas, CGCS (GCSAA director); Darrell Crall (PGA of America); Rand Jerris (USGA) and Cal Roth (PGA Tour).
