(Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) The EWGA (Executive Women’s Golf Association), the largest women-focused national amateur golf association in the United States, is pleased to announce their partnership with The First Tee for a third consecutive year. The two national organizations are working together to help increase female role models and mentoring opportunities.
With EWGA Chapters in 108 communities throughout the United States and approximately 170 The First Tee chapters nationwide, the partnership is a great way to increase female participation through a welcoming, non-intimidating environment. For the past two years, EWGA Chapters nationwide have worked with their local chapters of The First Tee through a variety of events to mentor young golfers participating in The First Tee Chapter events.
“Growing women’s participation in golf is critical for EWGA and the industry overall,” says CEO Pam Swensen. “For 25 years, EWGA has been extending invitations to grow our golf community for women. Mentoring young golfers is so important to the future of the game. With EWGA’s national footprint, encouraging our members to get involved with their local The First Tee Chapters provides us with first-hand experience in making a difference in women’s and young girls lives.”
In 2015, more than 35 EWGA Chapters partnered with their local The First Tee chapter to conduct special events for female participants and contributed more than $21,000 to support The First Tee. EWGA Chapters and The First Tee Chapters again are partnering to host mentoring events throughout 2016, especially during the month of July when both organizations focus on a Mentoring theme.
“Increasing the number of female golfers is important for The First Tee Chapters. While currently 38 percent of chapter participants are female, we want to increase that number with the help of our partnership with EWGA Chapters,” said Kelly Martin, The First Tee’s chief operating officer. “Together we can help empower young women to succeed both on and off the course.”
