ATLANTIS, Fla. – Today in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Martin County, the South Florida PGA Foundation broke ground on its 5th home with this year’s build taking place in Stuart. The home being built will be purchased by Tandra Islam and her two child, Safqaat (6) and Tanjila (10) who currently live in Martin County and have been waiting six long years to have their own home.
With hard hats on alongside South Florida PGA Board members and Foundation Board members, Tandra and her child shoveled dirt at the site of their new home. Throughout the entire ceremony, Tandra was all smiles knowing what this day meant; her dream of home ownership was coming true. Tandra is an employee of the Martin County School District.
This day was also very meaningful for the South Florida PGA Foundation and all South Florida PGA members as it meant that “the Foundation is one step closer to achieving our goal; to build a home in every county of the South Florida Section” stated SFPGA Foundation President, Tom Wildenhaus. “With each build we create new memories, impacting more lives in our community, and as PGA Professionals we find great reward in having the opportunity make contributions similar to these, helping others dreams come true.”
Along, with a $50,000 commitment to financially support this home build, PGA Professionals from all across South Florida will volunteer their time over the next four months to help build the home. They will perform tasks including but not limited installing windows, hanging drywall and painting. The first volunteer day for local PGA Professionals will be April 27th.
