Invitational to benefit Nantz National Alzheimer Center and University of St. Andrews
SCOTTSDALE, AZ- Legacy of the Links, LLC, founders of the exclusive Top 100 Invitational co-hosted by Friar’s Head and Sebonack Golf Club on September 26-27, 2016, is pleased to announce its prestigious tournament will benefit two worthy charitable causes, the Nantz National Alzheimer Center (NNAC) and the University of St. Andrews.
“We are delighted this year to include the Nantz National Alzheimer Center (NNAC) as our primary charitable beneficiary alongside the University of St. Andrews,” shared Taba Dale, event Co-Founder and a Golf Magazine Top 100 Panelist. “Our event will also serve as a special tribute to longtime CBS and Golf Channel commentator Peter Oosterhuis, a fellow GOLF Magazine Top 100 Panelist, who was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease in late 2014.”
According to Dale, both Peter and his wife, Roothie, have pledged their support for the NNAC, which was founded by Peter’s CBS colleague, Jim Nantz, an award-winning sports commentator, whose father was also afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease prior to his passing in 2008. “Having our Top 100 Invitational event benefit the NNAC is very meaningful for me personally,” shared Dale, “as my own father suffered from Alzheimer’s and I know first-hand the havoc that this devastating disease can wreak on any family.”
Oosterhuis, who competed in six Ryder Cups as a member of the GB&I/Europe team and won 20 professional tournaments worldwide, including the 1981 Canadian Open in which he beat Jack Nicklaus down the stretch, commented: “Both Roothie and I are excited to support this special event which has designated Nantz National Alzheimer Center as its primary charitable beneficiary. Ever since I was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, both Roothie and I pledged to do whatever we could to bring attention to this debilitating disease and help in any fundraising activities for the NNAC, especially in the golf world. When I heard the tournament was being held on the Monday and Tuesday prior to this year’s Ryder Cup at Hazeltine, I was delighted, as it will surely entice members of Top 100 ranked courses in Europe planning to attend the Ryder Cup to consider participating in the Invitational on their way to Minnesota.”
Jim Nantz founded the Nantz National Alzheimer Center with his wife Courtney as a lasting tribute to his father, Jim Nantz Jr., who battled Alzheimer’s disease for 13 years. “I want to thank Legacy of the Links and the Top 100 Invitational Foundation for including the NNAC as their primary beneficiary in honor of my dear friend, Peter Oosterhuis. Roothie and Peter have been incredible advocates as we all raise awareness of the critical funding needed to conduct innovative diagnostic discoveries for early and accurate detection of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementing illnesses in the hopes of one day finding a cure.”
