Golf Correspondent Ann Liguori is in Augusta to cover The Masters for WFAN Radio and CBS Sports Radio Network. It will be the 19th year Ann will be covering the Major Championship. She’ll also host her weekly radio show, Sports Innerview with Ann Liguori, on NPR’s WPPB 88.3 FM from there and contribute daily columns to cbsny.com.
After The Masters, Ann will be getting ready to host the 18th Annual Ann Liguori Foundation Charity Golf Classic on Monday, May 23rd, at exclusive Friar’s Head on the East End of Long Island. It’s the third-straight year the charity event will be played at the Ben Crenshaw-Bill Coore masterpiece.
The charity tournament raises money and awareness for not-for-profits that focus on cancer prevention, care and research including St. Jude Children’s Hospital, American Cancer Society, KIDS NEED MORE, a camp on Shelter Island for children with cancer and their siblings and a variety of organizations that support this cause. ALF also works to educate young people about the importance of good nutrition and regular exercise.
This year, the Ann Liguori Foundation will honor Robert Catalano with the “Charitable Giver Award.” Catalano, the President of Total Fire Protection, is the Founder of The Kids for Kids Foundation which has raised nearly 6.7 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Each year, Catalano and his team organize several events to raise money for kids and families battling catastrophic diseases. In 2013, the Kids for Kids Junior Committee was formed, consisting of young kids who raise money to help the cause. And every spring, Catalano takes a new group to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis to connect with the patients and tour the facility. Catalano will be honored during the award’s dinner on May 23rd in recognition of his fine work.
Registration starts at 10 AM and each participant will receive a goodie bag with a variety of premium-items. Prior to the shot gun start at noon, brunch in the lavish clubhouse with sprawling views of the Long Island Sound will be served. Players can practice like the pros on the incredible driving range and practice facility at Friar’s Head. Caddies are included.
After experiencing the beautiful, challenging lay-out, golfers can relax in the stunning bar and dining room of the clubhouse before an extravagant buffet dinner, awards presentation and auction, offering unique opportunities to bid on playing some of the most prestigious golf courses in the world as well as other rare items.
Sponsors include Maui Jim Sunglasses, Platinum Maintenance, TaylorMade Adidas and Tharanco Lifestyles/Greg Norman Collection.
